the thread about nothing...

Went to buy some toys to drop in the Toys for Tots box inside my gym
And the toy section looks the same as it did when I had to buy toys for my oldest nephew ( who is now 21)
Pokémon cards must be a different type of frenzy now because that **** was cleared out
Grown men are standing in line early in the morning for these..

There's a local gamestore near me that largely lives off trading card games nowadays. The owner mentioned that it's the main reason he's able to stay in business in this tiny rural town despite the death of physical games.
Them Pokemon, Magic The Gathering and Yugioh cards are flying off the shelves.

My sister in laws roommate of 15 years, I think it’s her secret boyfriend but she denies it but anyways he spent 20 racks on Pokémon cards this year.

I want to collect more cards tbh but I feel like I'd become a degenerate gambler if I get stuck in too deep
The only one I actually know how to play though is Yugioh. The videogames have pretty much every card up to that point and there's no lootbox gambling or anything, just unlocks through gameplay.

Do people even play the Pokemon card game anymore or do they just trade the cards??
I've never known someone who actually plays the pokemon TCG (trading card game) lol, I have no idea how to even play it. The Pokemon World Championships do include the TCG though and it looks like they draw good numbers. If I had to guess it's probably a lot more skewed towards collecting/trading than the other card games.
Yugioh and Magic were both played regularly around my way when I was growing up. Damn near everyone played Pokemon but not the card games.
