You need some music that uplifts you. All Jay-Z, Drake, and Weeknd do is depress you famb.

They brag and belittle you. Making you feel like you aren't worth ****. "money this, money that, I got this, ya'll aren't doing it like me that..."

And the Weeknd is just ******* depressing.

Nas will empower you, b. Not belittle you...

Music affects people on a mental level way more than they think. i can clearly define stages in my life by the types of music I listened to the most. Maybe you should give something different a chance, at least jazz or something.

Thats what I'm saying. Listen to something that takes you to another space, where your head can be clear and you can think from a new angle.

My outlook on things have become so much different since I stopped listening to so much "braggadocio" rap.

Clear your mind of that garbage from time to time, b.

You won't be so down in the dumps.

So should I be mad or no?

I went to go hang out with a friend and she just broke up with her bf last week (they argued all the times, he put his hands on her but "he loves him and hes the best guy ever" and the entire time we're out all she does is talk about him and all that nonsense. I sit there and listen because I know shes going through it right now, and then she has the nerve to start judging me. "I dont want to end up like you, always unhappy" she says. In normal circumstances I would have just taken it as genuine concern, but you could hear the tone in here voice. It was the tone of someone whos lifting themselves up by bringing someone down. I was infuriated, I just drove her home without saying a word and just left.

Am I overreacting yay or nay?

PLEASE RESPOND

FDB.

There are actually tons of research/scholarly articles into music and moods, music given to cancer patients during treatments, music and psychological disorders, etc.
Like all of the moments I have felt depressed, I would listen to one certain artist or genre, even today I was feeling down about some old stuff with someone from the past and noticed I was like halfway through NWTS :lol

Same here. I always find myself listening to Jay-Z when I'm feeling down or after something I hadn't succeeded in. Thinking it'll motivate me, but in reality it just puts your down subconsciously. Reminding you of how much you "aren't doing it" and how theres someone out there doing it bigger and better than you.

And thats not always good because thats not always a motivator. Sometimes it really keeps you down. Sometimes it really makes you feel like you won't amount to anything :{

But when I am doing it, for some reason I find myself listening to Otis Redding or something... Random...
