the thread about nothing...

One day I was coming home from school in the 3rd grade. Three other kids who also attended the same school and lived in the same apartment complex hopped on the elevator. This woman in the elevator who none of us knew, gave each of us $5. I don't think anyone who lived there was well off. This was back in the 90's, $5 had the buying power of $20 today.

Could use some job interview advice. Long story short, I am seeking X-amount of $, company has told me it's capped at $15K less than what I am asking for. Do I bother taking the time for the in-person interview on the basis that if I'm fortunate enough to get an offer, would I really accept? They told me to prepare to meet for 2 hours too, which I find strange. Feels super long.

Good god no! Looks like another trash Mortal Kombat film for us. Damn I actually had hope.

What industry? We interview for a full day.

In terms of the 15 K difference, I’m sure it can be made up in bonus, PTO etc

It's in inventory/supply chain planning. The talent acquisition rep I've been speaking with said there is growth professionally & financially, but who knows how true that sentiment is.

Gun to my head I would probably accept, but in the long run would I be happy I did? I don't want to waste their time or mine, but then I also don't want to sell myself short. The $ they are offering is certainly a bump from what I'm making now tho, which is why I'm torn on taking this next step in the process.

Oh you should definitely go in and interview then. If/ when they like you enough, they can meet you half way at least to that 15K.

We for sure would for our Supply Chain people.

Hmm. This was her over email so I imagine she couldn't tell me outright that they could increase if we like you enough? "As I had mentioned to you prior to our call, the budgeted salary for this role is $XX plus benefits. We offer numerous growth opportunities, both professionally and financially, but I cannot guarantee any increase in the budget for this role."

macbk macbk thats just her covering her tail. If any company likes you enough, they can meet you in the middle or hit you with a larger bonus or a signing bonus. You have nothing to lose!!!

I think you're convincing me man. Who's to say I even get an offer? I'm certainly going to try but I didn't want to fall into a situation where I waste their time/mine if in fact they are firm at $70K upon offering.

Appreciate the insight dude :nthat: .

No problem man, you can PM me and let me know if I can help in any which way. It always helps to talk regardless if you get an offer or not. Good to have options.

Why are people still saying, "Happy New Year!"?

Don't get it either, but still not as bad as people still saying Merry Christmas. A driver actually said that to me at work yesterday and I just gave them a blank stare
