my rules nowadays are First, Never Loan Money but Give it as a gift instead. it will save you from disappointment. the 2nd rule is, if you are going to loan money, always ask for a good worth collateral. it will save you from disappointment as well.

The way I look at it is, If I loan you 500$ and you burn me, I was able to get rid of a scavenger for 5 bills. I never have to see his face again. Quite the bargain.

I loaned my cousin I grew up with $500 about 4 years ago. Said he would pay me in a couple months
I asked him a couple months later and he said he had accidentally spent it.
I asked him a couple months later and he said he wasn’t working
I asked him a couple months later and he said “well remember we went to the bar that one time and I paid for our bottle service. I thought we were good”
Never got my money back.

My barber only does appointments too. Been doing appointments with him since covid. Only way to go. No waiting, no line. I can only do saturdays but I always schedule at 1pm when he gets back from lunch so he's not hangry or in a rush
