The UTAH JAZZ Support Group thread: Majorly updated.

Well on your way to pole position for a top draft pick. Just let these kids play and learn, loss after loss. You know that.

@Lockedonsports: For Advanced Stats geeks. Interesting that Favors usage rate is down now that he is starting and Kanter's is slightly lower than last year
Absurd.

These veterans, man. Hayward is the lone player that should be getting more shots than Kanter and Favors.

I blame Corbin, too. Jefferson, Millsap, Williams, Foye and Watson are gone, and it feels like he is still trying to stunt his young players.

I hate that I can't listen and/or read Locke's stuff now as much as I did last season.

Corbin is the worst. Ready to see anyone else leading these kids.

- Hayward scores 12 points in the first seven minutes. Gets pulled. Four shots the rest of the first half, and just four total in the second half. He was uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball, but still.

- Burks should never, ever be the primary ballhandler when he, Hayward and a "real point guard" (loosely used with this team) are on the floor together. He's a high-risk, high-reward attacker, but running the offense and finding shots for others? No. Still don't see a ton to like about him. Way too many mistakes, and not a good shooter or ballhandler. Just kind of an athlete out there.

- Gobert doesn't check in until more than halfway through the third quarter? And the only reason he played as much as he did after that is because Kanter was in major foul trouble.

...

Definitely Favors' best game of the season so far.

Hayward, Favors and Kanter: 22-for-43 (51.2)
Rest of the team: 9-for-34 (26.5)

The defense and defensive rebounding.

Lucas and Jefferson are explicitly bad. A combined 4-18 (a combined 32.4% on the season), and Lucas worked really hard to pull out of a 4-on-2 break in the first half.

Edit:
@tribjazz Trey Burke has been cleared to begin solo basketball drills, the team says. He'll get another look from the doc Nov. 25.

Tinsley cut. Diante Garrett signed from the D-League. They also considered Kendall Marshall.

Hopefully Lucas is next once Burke returns.

I saw that there was a flirtation with Kendall Marshall. Any interest on your part, or pass?

Young/cheap, etc.

I would have given him a shot over whoever Diante Garrett is. Liked him coming out of Carolina.

If Nate Wolters can be doing this...
@nbastats Wolters has 31asts thru 5gms, most by Bucks rook in last 25 yrs (h/t @Bucks)
MIL scoring 104.7 PTS/100poss. w/ him on court, 87.6 w/ him off
...I think Kendall Marshall can be a serviceable backup. Especially on a bad team that just needs the simplest of point guard abilities right now.

They do need some floor spacing right now, though. Pretty sure they are the worst three-point shooting team in the league by a lot, and it is making defending them way too easy. Tinsley was a terrible shooter. Marshall isn't a good one. No idea if Garrett is. The D-League numbers from last year suggest that he could be.

But they signed guard Ian Clark out of summer league to be a shooting specialist, and he doesn't play.

Whatever the case, Hayward is still the best "point guard" on the team. I would experiment with it more regularly. Just difficult because he has to be the scorer, too.

If I remember correctly, Lucas went to Baylor before Oklahoma State. Baylor happens to be the alma mater of Lindsey.

I remember you mentioning that before.

He has been everything I feared. A chucker who steals shots and doesn't hand out enough good ones.

How do we all feel about the direction in which to take this impending lottery pick early on?

You saw the main 3 last night, you can't lose with any of em. Thing is, you're already a lil tight at PF so Randle.......eh.

Say you land 3. Wiggins-Parker 1-2, maybe trade down a spot or two to try for a better PG than Burke + whatever else you can get. I think someone would try to move up for Randle.

Could you slide Hayward to SG if you pulled the #1 for Wiggins, would it work out?

Burke
Hayward
Wiggins
Favors
Kanter

Still need to upgrade Burke I'm betting unless he develops an NBA game more than expected.

Tank or no tank, still glad to finally see them put one on the board.

Hayward and Kanter. :smokin

Lucas with an impressive 0-7 with zero assists and two turnovers in 15 minutes. Stop it.

Gobert not playing...? No mention of any kind of injury.

Tanking 101.

Stop fighting it. Let it happen.

Favors will be starting at point by game 40, watch.

But Hayward, Kanter and Favors still need to get better. Not as easy to do when no one can get you the ball in good spots (besides Hayward himself).

I see what you're sayin........

Maybe they're just tryin Burks out a game or two, he sucks, they dump it and move forward elsewhere.

Kind of the beauty of this tank season, they can try everything out a little, doesn't look good, move on to the next. Basically 82 glorified scrimmages + practice all year to learn what each guy can or can not do.

I don't think it'll last too many games man.

Gobert gets a DNP for no reason on Wednesday, and doesn't enter this game until there are three minutes left in the third because of major foul trouble...

Three points and five rebounds in those three minutes.

Then he gets taken out.

Favors. :smokin

Read somewhere earlier today that Hayward was like a 30% shooter in his career against the Spurs. It got worse.

He was a game-time decision because of a shin thing too, though.
