There's a difference between looking for deals and trying hard to get something out of your budget. Not saying OP is doing that, but usually if one is wealthy enough to afford such an item, they wouldn't ask where they could find discounts. Also, if one is wealthy and wants a product, I don't think they would hold back just because they weren't able to find it for cheaper. Like they would look for a cheaper price but if they couldn't get one, they'd buy what they wanted. Then there are people who compromise a lot of their money to buy an expensive product (once again not saying that this is OP).

your lucky to find a used one for 2k but new 3-5k, If you are just looking for a nice reliable watch start with a citizen watch with eco drive

, work your way up I wouldnt just jump into a rolex without knowing what all the parts in the watch do to make it expensive.

i agree with this partially. just don't count out wealthy people looking to save a buck if they can. that's probably how they got their in the first place. you think every one driving a benz walked in the dealership and bought it for sticker? probably not. i just don't like the assumption that if someone is looking for a discount, that they don't have the financial means to buy something.

Anyway to answer the mans question; unless you have $6K to spend then forget about getting a Rolex. There is no need in spending a couple grand on a "vintage" watch. And personally I'd look at a GMT or Submariner if you happen to have the $6K to spend...and deal with authorized dealers only..unless you are looking for a pre-owned.

Of course I wouldn't count wealthy deal hunters, I think it's a very smart and efficient idea to look for the cheapest deal available. I myself hate spending retail on anything (besides food) because I know for a fact there is a place I can find it cheaper. It doesn't matter whether you're rich or poor, looking for a discount is smart and a great idea.

But there are people who like to live outside their means and try and stunt when they just don't have the cash. That is not smart. At the end of the day, only the person knows if they're spending within their needs or if they're trying too hard.
