Tidal Streaming!!

Most people don't have the equipment to take advantage of flac. In fact, most people don't know what flac is. Streaming on your phone will destroy your data. This leaves your computer as the viable option. But very few (relatively) have studio monitors to even hear quality like flac. To anyone who doesn't know, studio monitors are high end speakers.

In short, tidal is stupid for the consumer. Unless you plan on upgrading your headphones, car audio system, and computer speakers... You're just putting 93 octane gas in your 1992 civic.

Let me tell you Braj, you ARE NOT in the minority, at least not alone. I still buy CDs and I give no damns about what someone says about it. CDs are still top notch to me. I have nothing against streaming or iTunes or any of that, but I still love CDs. So if that makes you old school, then I am too because it would take a whole lot for me to switch to streaming, and at $20 a month for tidal for what may or may not be exclusive or whatever, I will pass for now. For $20 I can hit up Bestbuy/Target, FYE, or even Amazon for hard to find CDs.
I don't ever see myself paying for a streaming service.  At the same time, I am not walking around with a Walkman, maybe that would be considered old school.  I buy CD's than rip it  to my iTunes if I wan to put it on my phone for convenience.  But 90% of my listening is off the actual cd.

I feel you on owning CDs.  Owning physical copies of music is like owning pieces of art.  IMO digital media will never be able to replicate physical media because there's something purer about holding the music in your hand vs having it on your computer.
Exactly.  Maybe nostalgia plays a factor too.  I love buying a cd, opening the case, looking at the artwork, and reading the liner notes as the cd plays out.  There's just a certain feeling I get from that experience that you cannot recreate with streaming or digital music.

Is it possible for streaming music to match the quality of cd's.  That's one of the main factors that has always kept me away from streaming services.  I guess I am old school and in a shrinking minority because I still buy cd's.  Plus, I tend to listen whole albums.  I don't jump back and forth between artists.  Never was a fan of the radio.

Amazon has classic rap album for $3.99 at times. Most older rap CDs are $5-$8 on Amazon. Even Best Buy has some good **** for $5.99. I'm always buying some random old CDs to replace my scratched CDs. I'll never pay for streaming, it's not for me.

Didnt say they would. Streaming doesn't eat up all your data if you know what you doing.
data isnt the main problem here. like my analogy...u can run 93 octane if you want. thats your choice. but running it through a 92 honda civic is pointless. data is a secondary MAJOR concern for the average consumer. 66mb on one song? u do know that downloading large files eats battery as well right? dont u think downloading 1gig of music in an hour will hurt your phone or mp3 player battery? wifi or not. if ur on data forget about it. but the main thing is...quality of headphone/speaker vs content coming through it.

ATT unlimited isn't winning tho. Let go and couldn't imagine being throttled anymore and being able to tether :hat.

They Die By Dawn” Starring Erykah Badu, Michael K. Williams & More Streaming Exclusively On Tidal
April 3, 2015
(AllHipHop News)  Jay Z and the rest of the new owners of Tidal promised the streaming service will offer exclusive content. Users can now watch director Jeymes Samuel’s They Die By Dawn  exclusively on the platform.

The 50-minute film is based on real life stories of African-American cowboys and cowgirls. The all-star cast includes Michael K. Williams, Rosario Dawson, Erykah Badu, Giancarlo Esposito, Jesse Williams, Nate Parker, Isaiah Washington, Bokeem Woodbine and Harry Lennix.

“I was like, ‘Ok, look. I’m gonna shoot this [film], I’m gonna write this story, and I’m gonna assemble almost every single real character that existed and I’m assemble them like the Avengers and put them in one place at one time – in one of the first Black settlements post-slavery, 1890 in Langston, Oklahoma,'” Samuels told Life+Times  in 2013. “We got Black Wall Street. All of these places that are criminally unsung. So I set this story in 1890 and I threw everyone in it: Ben Hodges, Rufus Buck, Nat Love, Bill Picket, Stagecoach Larry, Jordan Anderson, etc.”

Just signed up for the trial. The few songs I listened to aren't as muddy. And that's just from regular earbuds. Headphones will take it to another level most likely. If it was $10, I'd stick with this.

That's exactly what I'm doing and exactly why I'm not paying for Tidal. For $10 I can get two old school albums off Amazon for my collection. Add the fact that Amazon Prime takes away the shipping cost.

I don't see most fans supporting this project. Why would I pay for Tidal when I'm buying your albums (physical and/or digital), buying your merchandise and buying your concert tickets?

theyre banking on hype and star power. Theyre going to release "exclusive content" only to tidal. im sorry, but i dont care. I dont stream music as it is. I download or buy it. i keep everything in as high a bitrate as i can. Seeing some of you say you hear a difference in your ipod earbuds makes me question what type of low bitrate u mustve been listening to to hear a difference. yall listening to 128 kbps streams?

imo its another case of a celebrity telling you something you need, and up until 5 minutes ago u never knew u needed it. if jay z came up with a new high-quality leather wallet...all the sudden people would realize they do need a wallet and this leather IS better. placebo + celebrity go a LONG way man. as a musician, i think its cool theyre trying to give more royalties to the artists and writers and producers. but as a consumer...the disrespect is incredible.

Paying to stream music? Nah I'm good.

I've never spend a single cent on music and I certainly won't spend it to stream music rather than buying an actual physical item.

I don't care for that exclusive content stuff. Hell, I'm the person that buys the standard edition of albums instead of the deluxe. I'm huge J Cole fan and I still won't support Tidal. Well I will support them while I have this 30 day free trial, but I'm done after that.

word. i definitely support j cole...and only j cole (as far as whos on that stage) but "every penny is mines to keep" as kendrick said. my music is all on my phone and all at 256 or higher. If im on the go, I got munitio pro40s on my ears or if im at home i got Yamaha HS80Ms by my computer. i dont know what lossy quality sounds like lol. if u download music in less than 256, u have a problem already. its 2015...we've been off that kazaa/limewire/napster quality for a decade b

If your using mp3's, it's lossy.

If you're using an iPhone retina instead of the new galaxy s6... You're looking at an obsolete screen. Your eyes just can't perceive the difference. Do you see what I'm getting at? If I play you a 320 kbps then play the flac... You won't know which is which.

Actually I can hear an audible difference in 320kbps and FLAC.

I'm prescribed the maximum dosage of Tramadol, which is an opiate painkiller. It has this weird effect on my hearing that allows me to hear and differentiate sounds I normally wouldn't be able to if I was sober. There's definitely a noticeable difference betweeb 320kbps and FLAC but only under the effect of opiates for me.

Sober however I can't tell the difference.

I can't really explain how music feels different to me under the effect of my painkillers but I guess it would be similar to a a low tier soundsystem (sober) and a very high-tech setup (opiate effect). I can hear every little note, instrument, ... Everything that would normally go unnoticed, I suddenly notice.

I feel the same way, but I still pay for streaming music service because of convenience when out and about in the whip. Some days I just want to listen to a wide variety of artists, so it eliminates the need for riding around with a lot of cd's.

I stream, it's only $10 a month. That's a morning of Starbucks. I'd go to Tidal if artist on Spotify stop being available.

I also buy music(Wale, Kendrick, Prhyme...).

I also download music :) and have a ton on RAR files hard drives besides being on Google Play to listen to.

It's convenient to stream, because you can't have everything. If I see an Unsung on Sly & The Family Stone, I can easily go to Spotify and listen to some songs.

It's amazing to me how some of you don't know how convenient and the benefits of streaming, beyond buying CD's and downloading.

this is interesting to be honest. but, its not valid for the sake of argument to say u perceive the difference when ur doped on heavy duty painkillers because that is NOT a normal state nor will the vast majority ever experience that lol. u popping a senzu bean and being able to hear like daredevil does not count

Even in my condition I still wouldn't pay for Tidal or anything. I download some of my favorite albums in FLAC because I actually get to enjoy the difference but it's definitely not worth paying for imo.

I'm guessing that people with incredible sound systems may experience a noticeable difference in 320kbps and FLAC like I do but again that's far from the average person. People like that may see Tidal as a worthwhile purchase but I really don't see this picking up mass appeal.

and also being able to shazaam something and it takes u directly to spotify. there really is no downside to streaming imo.
