So I got pulled over for rolling a stop sign (near my house god dammit). It was a sheriff or CHP if that matters. This was back in May, but I set up a court date to fight the ticket on December 20th, which is this week. What are the chances of him showing up?

About the same chance as the world ending the next day

He will show up. And don't try to pull the race card cuz his wife is black....and fine.

^have you had similar experiences?

City cops rarely show up because their busy work loads, but CHP is a diff story, he'll likely be there. You'll be lucky if he doesn't.

Well now I guess I'm out $270 then. There goes Xmas money.

I've been to court a couple times and have seen them not show up. It's just a roll of the dice. If he shows up, you're done.
Just some advice, by fighting your ticket, you give up your right to traffic school, even if you're eligible. Last time I was there, the judge told everybody, I'll give you a chance at traffic school, but if you decide to continue fighting the ticket and you lose, no traffic school. If your cop is there, take the traffic school.

They get paid overtime to show up. I would say it's about 70% chance they show up. Especially if he's a young cop.

Plead no contest and take any recommendation the judge throws at you.

So what you're saying is if he doesn't show up, I'm off the hook, and if he does, I should just take the L and do traffic school?

Take a payment plan and just pay it with income tax, that way it's not such a burden on you.

Pretty much. It's his word against yours, and if he's not there for hearing - you win. Definitely take the traffic school to avoid the increase on your insurance.

I don't think an officer has to show up for this kind of violation. You might be able to work a little magic with the prosecutor before you see the judge, though. Explain to the prosecutor that you made an honest mistake (maybe you were rushing to the bathroom) and you don't have a lot of money because of bills and the holiday. Perhaps you could ask for a reduced sentence. I dunno what's less than passing through a stop sign, but you'll never know. He might reduce the charge to a lesser offense, you see the judge, pay the court fees and hopefully save some money.

Good luck.

Ask for a new court date because you can't make it. Say you had an unexpected emergency that came up.
By the fifth time you should be good to show up. Chances are the cop will forget the whole incident

Yup. Judge is taking his word 110% over your lies :lol

One time I fought a ticket and I'm waiting in the lobby of the court. See a couple cops in uniform, but I don't see mine. Judge opens the door to the courtroom and I'm ****** stoked since I didn't see the cop. I'm the last one to walk into the courtroom, and who do I see walking in next to me in plain clothes? Swerve! The ****** cop who pulled me over :lol
I was beyond mad.

Much appreciated for the responses. I'll be ready for Thursday now LOL.

ROFL at the last minute cot DAYUM.

you should have rescheduled the court date last minute for a later time, he'll be set on showing up and see you cancelled and be like **** this and not deal with it

^the thing is this has been going through my mind since May. My parents know nothing about it and I just want to get it over with. I'm not under their insurance plan anymore so they won't know regardless.

Went to court last year for taking an illegal U turn after I came from game stop and copped 2k :{ :smokin . I was fairly new to the area, and I noticed everything looked unfamiliar and knew I missed my turn so i hit that Uwee and I legit thought I could take a U turn there. So after I smoothly take that U turn while thinking of the 180 dunks I would be pulling with Wade, I hear the lights and see the officer tailing me :rolleyes . So I pull over and this lesbian officer asking me numerous times what I did and told her I had no clue. she kept saying "be honest." Ironically I was blasting Every Girl right before she pulled me over ("Are any y'all into girls like I am? Let's be honest") After she left I went back to see if there was a no U turn sign and of course it was there... right behind a big sign, so I had about a second to see it at the speed I was going :|

Fast forward to the court date. I just knew I could get it overturned based off the "impeding sign" :lol . Even though my officer wasnt there yet, I was just ready to make my case and get this ticket overturned... UNTIL everyone else make their cases and the judge just looks at them and says youre guilty. Some people were doing a lot of stupid stuff and got away with cause their officers werent there, whole time i was just laughing. At this point im just praying my officer doesnt show up, but she did 2 cases before mines :{ . I just said i was guilty and they need to do something about that sign, and he just reduced the charge.

Only positive was I met this dude who gave me an internship at UMD. But you might get lucky and he might not show. I went for parking tickets last friday and none of the officers showed up.
