What is Jermaine O'Neal still doing in Indiana?

Seriously, what is he doing there. He's voiced some criticism about the franchise, and I believe asked to be traded once or twice, but it still hasn'thappened. The Pacers have young talent like Danny Granger, Travis Diener, Shawne Williams and you'd think they would try to surround that team with evenmore younger talent and for that to happen Jermaine O'Neal would probably have to be traded, waived, etc. He's tied with Jason Kidd for the thirdhighest contract this year in the NBA (19 million a year) and you would think the Pacers could put that money to a better use if they got his contract off thebooks. Trading him is obviously a logical choice, but the NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone. Although he was in many trade rumors with several teams thisseason (and many seasons before this season) he still hasn't been traded.

In my opinion the Pacers should try to trade this guy for a couple of first round draft picks, or at least some young prospects that have potential to bedecent in this league. No way am I venting at all because I have no reason to (Minnesota Timberwolves fan) but I have seen this guy play hard for the Pacersfor 8 seasons, really not getting anything back from the organization (except the '00 championship) other than the late Reggie Miller, Fred Jones, RonArtest types. Since being traded to the Pacers, he has averaged 19 PPG, 9 RPG, and 2.3 BPG. Those are pretty impressive stats and even though lately hehasn't been producing numbers like that, he still has the potential to. He's been a 6-Time All-Star (02, 03, 04, 05, 06, and 07) and he has been on theAll-NBA Second Team once, and the All-NBA third team twice.

I know stats aren't everything though, he's had somewhat of an image problem. He's been very outspoken on the race in the NBA. When he heard thatthe NBA was installing a one year college deal before players could enter the draft, he said racism was the reason why the NBA had this standard, and leagueslike the NHL and MLB didn't. Being outspoken can be a good thing though, he's stating his opinion on the matter and obviously not caring how anybodybreaks it down.

Long story short, I can't figure out why he still has a locker in Indiana, because it would be beneficial for both him and the Pacers to part ways. I couldsee him fitting in on teams like the Heat, Suns, Warriors, Rockets, etc. This is just my opinion on the Jermaine O'Neal situation, sorry for the long postbut I just wanted to share my thoughts on what's happening.

I do not know but he is the only reason i even liked the pacers. I can't stand the Pacers and if he gets traded i dont know if ill like them at all..

this guy is probably as good as gone. i wouldnt be suprised if he gets moved during draft night. i dont see him coming back to this team.

He's a textbook example of a guy who is destined to be a star player on a bad team no matter where he goes. He's always among the league leaders in TOsby a big man ...and he settles for jump shots despite the fact that his J is doo doo, look at his FG%

What team would want that contract, let alone that hairline?

if the pacer were smart they would try and trade him for someone good or decent. They have a great squad right now without him, just need a few more goodpeices and they will be a great young team. Granger, Dunleavy, and Murphy are great together just gotta a little more around them.

he's done. he's not going to put up 20 10 numbers anymore at this point in his career 15 and 7, 13 and 6 is more logical

the injuries are going to keep eating at him

if any team is smart they wouldnt trade really talented or high first round picks for him

If he could stay healthy, I would love his low-post presence on the Warriors.

I've been hoping for the Pacers to trade him away for the last 2-3 seasons now.. We should have dumped him along time ago.. the split is long overdue..

Yeah, trade him to the Knicks. W'd welcome his presence in the middle.

But yeah, it's time for him to leave Indy.

I can't get over son's forehead. It's more ridiculous than him still being in Indy.

He'll be moving on soon, this off-season.

so true.

"thank goodness the lakers did not trade for him last summer"

I know right. I'm not gonna lie, I was one of the people who wanted him on the Lakers.
He's contract is huge and nobody wants to pay him that money. He is always injured and will not produce numbers like he used to. Hopefully, he can comeback fully healed and still somewhat produce.

Pau ~ JO. If he's healthy he's a HELL of a player. I don't know, I think I'd rather have JO then Pau in my opinion, but I love both players.

I read somewhere Al wanted to go back to Indy because he hates how he's being used by Nellie...

yep..

he's been injured for the past two seasons... he came back from injury too early several times.. When healthy, he is a much better defensive player thanGasol.. he's got a nice offensive game too but he tends to settle for the fade away too much..
