What was life like in the 90s? Vol. Old heads chime in

I was 10-20 in the 90s. I loved every bit of it. colors, new jack city , and boys n the hood were revolutionary.

Shows like married with children, in living color, Herman’s head and others that escape me were the move on fox Thursday’s and Sunday’s.

With all these streaming services I don’t think that the sitcom era of the 90s will be a thing ever again.

Never mind this cancel culture/hashtag culture, some of the things on in living color and married with children would not fly in today’s world. Some group of people would be offended. People were offended in the 90’s but writing a letter about it doesn’t work like the power of social media.

An event you can ask anyone from the 90s about and they can give you an answer is where they were when the OJ chase happened and when the verdict was announced. During the chase it’s amazing how everyone stopped what they were doing and got to a tv or a radio. That chase really was the start of reality TV.

The cookie cutter eyebrows, lashes, and filters of today aren't it either chief.
Filters are filters so that doesn't apply here. I think women show more varieties of styles these days when it comes to make-up, it's far from cookie-cutter. Not to mention none of that stuff smears like it used to and blends more naturally(especially for women of color).

 @ The concept of people looking better now vs. then. THe hell does that even mean.

Yall are missing the point.

No men in ANY time period thought to themselves, women as a WHOLE don't look good.

You have to use retrovision to even make a statement like that.

Dumb convo. Like jape jape said, Stop letting the 25 year old troll yall man.

The release date for the newest Jordans didn't affect my age bracket as much in the 90s. Luckily, the PX (military store) kept a nice stock, and at a slightly discount price. Once the retros (specifically the IVs) hit in '99, different story.

greatest retro ever

He's right, women in 90s hairstyle and make-up sucked.
Women looked more natural and their age back then.

Been very very into 90s nostalgia during the quarantine. Born in 87 so got to experience the 90s as a kid. So much cool back then especially between 92-96.

What y'all know about writing in "numerics" though?

That's some 90s ish.

Born in 87!

I definitely can attest to the Eastbay magazine. You bring that in class, you definitely get points and be “the man” for that day. I also remember having the kicks magazine from slam. Man, those were some good days.

Jordan’s used to sit on shelves for months and most cases, go on sale(Minus the Jordan 11’s in black/red in 1996).

Back then for me and my siblings, we would only get one or two sneakers the whole school year. One for back to school shopping and the other for your Bday. My mom would have a price cap of the shoes she can buy. I remember I wanted the black/silver Nike Air Max uptempo 3’s(now called the uptempo 97’s) and saw it at Athletes Foot. Retail was $139.99. I asked my mom, she said no. I had to settle and get some black air force ones, which retailed for $74.99 back then. I know that was common to a lot of families back then as far as shoes. Lastly, shoes came out every couple of months compared to now while they come out every week.

Let’s not forget how video games used to cost $60-$80, which is pretty insane in the 90’s. I used to wonder why we didn’t have that many Sega and Super Nintendo games, but I can see why looking back. We used to just rent video games most of the time.

Getting a CD on release day was a big deal back then lol. Back then, you knew a rapper had a new album coming out when you see his video on rap city or hear it on the radio. You would get hyped when you open the source magazine and you see the advertisement of the album. You would go into the CD store and listen to the album before you decide to buy it. Good times, just good ol times.
