for us...

academic: A - 4.0, B - 3.0, etc.
honors: A - 5.0, B - 4.0, etc.
AP: A - 6.0, B - 5.0, etc.

3.5, didn't try as hard, but I made sure I got that honors medal when I graduated.

Story of my life. I had like a 2.5 or something in high school because I cut so many classes that I almost didn't graduate. Got a 2000/2400 on my SATs though and passed 3 APs, so I got into college on the strength of those alone.
