What was your starting salary after college?

Yup and thats where people go wrong. They think that having a 4.0 GPA will land them their dream job, which is not the case at all. I know a handful of people that are going through this now. I've always stressed the importance of internships/co-ops , because without them the job/internship hunt is much harder. Just because you have a 4.0 doesn't mean that you can perform well in the workplace. Companies would much rather have the candidate with 2+ internships and a 3.0+ GPA, than someone with a 3.6+ GPA and no experience.
This! Just check the requirements for entry level jobs especially in IT. 2-3 years previous experience is not uncommon. ..

Ticket sales, is the bottom of the sports industry. It's how many have worked their way up to where they are now. It doesn't pay well.
Damn well I'm going pass. Was just looking for a job between undergrad and graduate school.

Graduated May '13. BS in Economics. Tons of internship experience.

Started as a full-time Investment Analyst at $48K base. Got a raise after 5 months.

Not snagging a internship while in school messed me up.

Congrats though, once you have the analyst job title on the resume you're pretty much set.

I worked first before going to college. I spent 7 years with Nike/Converse to get the management experience needed b/c ultimately in a perfect world I'd like to design for Nike. I also worked a year for Huntington Ingalls working with blueprints and building ship units as a fitter. It's a different set of skills but it allowed me to get some hands on work with manufacturing and design.

Hopefully that lands me two solid internships in the footwear industry next year and the year after so that I can graduate with some connections in the industry outside of retail so I can land a decent gig after i graduate...

Cats on NT making 70K plus and enjoying the work they do is :smokin

I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant in Alabama. Graduated and passed the boards last year, so I have about 9 months of experience. First job I was making a little over 47k in a SNF. My current job I will make a little over 52k in acute care. Full benefits for both jobs. Will be making a move out of Alabama eventually.

Any other physical therapist or physical therapist assistants on here?
Dang 52k for a PA assistant , how much do physical therapist make in general then ?

15 only? NYC has a high rate or insurance fraud. people overbook everywhere here. the clinics i've seen have about 3-4 patients an hour
15 was the minimum. You are scheduled like 20. I was seeing 3-4, sometimes 5 at a time on my internship. Private insurances dont care how many you see at a time, only medicare does, and the people with medicare get scheduled accordingly. Some places give bonuses if you average a certain amount of case load for a month.

Brooklyn has the highest rate of medicare fraud in the country.
yup this is true. it is tough to find a good place in brooklyn for pt. where are you working now for pt?

. are PT's in demand in alabama?

Got my BA in Marketing. My job is in IT/Operations. Making $60k plus Overtime/differential. Graduated exactly 1 year ago.

I'm a business major with option in IT management and corporate management. Graduating this June. Was it hard to get a job in IT/operations?

Got a job in retail after graduating November 2013. Majored in Computer Science and Psychology.

Went on holiday for 2 months, couldn't get anything in my field so took up the retail job.

I did an internship during my last year in college but only for 2 months as holidays ended and they wanted someone who could intern full time.

Just got a possible offer today for $15/hr (New Zealand currency) for a 6 month web development internship which is the industry I want to be in.

Should I negotiate at all or just accept it? I hate my job right now and it's doing nothing for me in terms of the industry I want a career in. I'm 22 and ready to take that low salary and gain as much experience as I can, but still not quite sure what to do at the moment.

Advice ?

My dad used to work with the hiring manager, so I got hooked up with an interview. It wasn't a guaranteed job, just an opportunity for an interview before other applicants. I'm at a 24 hour helpdesk, so there's usually a need for people. I would say it all depends on what kind of job you're looking for. I've had no luck with my Marketing side though. I've only applied for two positions though. Both not taken.

How did you guys go about negotiating your salary for your first job?

They said "we'll offer you 40k, how does that sound?"

I said "that works for me"

I remember one of my first jobs, I tried negotiating thinking I was doing it.

Killed the interview, they said when can you start? I said tomorrow.

Then I said... "I don't want to start at minimum wage though, atleast $9, you won't regret it!"

They giggled and was like "That's good to know, our base hourly rate is $10.25"

I was like :wow: kthxbai.

Just curious, what type of school did you go to?

Here in SoCal it's so competitive to get into a simple PTA program at a community college

. A lot of the people applying for the good ones already have BA's and some aide experience. I'm jealous of some of you guys who don't have this problem in other states.

Relocate.

I will be graduating in Spring 2015 with a BA in Communications, with a concentration of Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. Does anyone out there have any advice for me? Which kinds of internships should I try to look for now or later? Anyone out there with the same or similar degrees? Any positive feedback would be much appreciated! :nerd:

Graded in 2011 with a Bus degree (MIS concentration) and Econ minor, made 67k starting and up to 80k now. Not an MIS position, I was apparently 5 years too late for any entry level jobs in my city. I'm officially in a business development position, not sure if that best describes what I do.

Im not in your field ,so I can't comment on the type of internship. This summer is your last summer for an internship. You have to really grind if you are going to get one this summer, because most internship positions are filled in the fall and start mid May , early June. You still have a chance to land one, but you must start looking/applying now goodluck with your search.

I graduate in August. I was offered a couple jobs in the city, just want to negotiate some salary and see if one will partner with me when I decide to pursue board certification. I'm probably going to be moving to Queens, so working in Brooklyn is too much of a travel.

PTAs make really good money in FL, NY, TX, and CA. Whenever someone asks me if they should pursue PT, I tell them to look into PTA first.

PTA is a 2yr. degree and you will probably start out at between 45-50k a yr, which will go up with experience.

PT degree is at least 6-7yrs, and will start out at maybe 70k if you are lucky.

PTA is going to be a much bigger demand than PT in the next few years because it is cheaper to have PTAs. They will mainly use PTs to perform evaluations and then delegate treatment to PTAs, athletic trainers, or exercise physiologists.

Bro, I wanted to go into MIS but I've heard that it's real iffy looking for something in that field. I was really interested as well because it gave a blend of tech and business, just not sure if I can get a decent paying job afterwards.

My wife is a PT, and when she started out of college, i believe she was in the low to mid $80k range. We live in CA.
