The Cincinnati cap was the hoods fitted of choice in the years prior Pittsburgh's domination. Maybe NY is just late for once? Or maybe it's a gangthing, Richmond CA it's best not to get caught with a Reds fitted on.

I remember back in the mid to late 90's only 2 fitteds you saw in NYC were a Yankee fitted and Cleveland Indians.... Indian fitteds were rampant back inthe day.
