Why do we have so many official threads ?

I understand why NT has so many "official" threads, but because of these threads it's causing the General forum to become very bland. I've been on NT for quiet some time now and this isn't helping.

Still relevant

First page full of threads I dont care to reply in, I just close the tab

nike retro and da music section has basically expired more or less because of this...its what i hated about da sole collector forums when i browsed over there one time.

Seems like a simple fix to address and prevent multiple threads on the same topic.

Weird that official threads are whats getting a complaint :lol

I see it as the trade-off between fun disorganization vs boring organization

Official threads to me feel like the scope is so narrowed it kills any potential open-ended discussion on a somewhat similar topic

I would think threads like official political, Ralph lauren polo, and mitcheless & Ness, anime & manga threads are clear cut and cover everything under the umbrella possible so they don't kill anything open-ended and similar.

Now there are some more first hand anecdotal threads that could go in to an official threads but thats up to the poster if they want to make that thread.

To me there's a difference between making a thread about being @ some rally or convention and talking about the rally/convention in the political thread.

Official threads are better for the Niketalk ecosysytem

It allows topics to be discussed at greater depth and length

True but I can see how some people can view a long-running thread as daunting to participate in. It’s like trying to jump in a game of Double Dutch and the twirlers are going hard off the bat. No chance to even get your feet set to get a rhythm going.

Highlights the biggest issue I have with official threads. Personally, im never going to go back multiple pages to gain context on whatever dudes are talking about currently. If I cant glean the context on the current page im not going to reply.

I agree with this. Personally, I feel like any deviation from the OP should become its own thread.

If we had an official NBA thread but the convo swings to basketball's effect on sports globally, that would be a new thread.
