I have a few theories on why it is but I want to know what ya'll think. To me its really not even close. Female RNB sucks for the most-part.

Ha yeah that's a small part of it. Personally I think women are so in tune with their emotions that they don't have to express it throughsong. When they do sometimes it becomes generic. Women sing about love but a lot of the time it sounds empty, and even worse jaded. I can't listen to anentire MJB album. I won't even give Keisha Cole a chance. Also you gotta think about the audience they cater to. Imo women rnb artists cater to a 90%female audience, with that other 10% being male (5% of which are prolly gay lol). While on the other hand male rnb artists make songs that are accessible tomen and women almost equally. Could you imagine a male rnb artist with a male equivalent song of A. Key's Superwoman or any of Beyonce's independentwoman songs lol. Hell no! Male rnb artists express emotions that men normally don't get to so a lot of the time its much rawer and realer. Hell the bestsongwriters are male for a reason, we got all that pent up emotion to let out.Originally Posted by JR Paperstacks

You know something wrong if you gotta go that far back fam lol. But even back then the men had it on smash. Word to Jodeci, New Edition, etc.Originally Posted by Seymore CAKE

I'm talking about right now, but I think the men had it through the 90's too.Originally Posted by EzFlash26
You mean right now, or in general? Cuz yea, through the 90's...the females ran %$$@ on the R&B side for the most part.
I'll admit the gap was much closer in the 90's but I think the men had the slight edge. New Edition, Boyz II Men, Guy, Tevin Campbell,Brian McKnight, R. Kelly, Al B. Sure, Ginuwine, Babyface, Jodeci, K-Ci and JoJo, Usher, Case, Carl Thomas, Joe, Keith Sweat, H-Town, Jesse Powell, Troop, After7, Blackstreet, 112, Tony Toni Tone, Shai, Dru Hill, Soul 4 Real, Johnny Gill, LSG, Donnell Jones, Bobby Brown, D'Angelo, and that's just off topOriginally Posted by EzFlash26
Right now, the females just wack for the most part. R&B right now is wack in general tho, aint nobody singing no more...
The 90's tho, Mary J. Blige, Aaliyah, SWV, En Vouge, TLC, Xscape, Monica, Mariah, Lauryn, Brandy had joints, etc...tsst, it was some classic %+*# out back then.
but at the end of the day, we men, so of course we are going to lean towards the male content in general. No matter how well the song is sung, you cant help but toat "Whatta Mighty Good Man", aint no N' tryna hear that lol.
^^^ how many of the above have made albums in the 6-7 yearsOriginally Posted by RavageBX

90's right? Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Babyface, Robert Kelly, & Joe. Game Over.
Male R&B is sooooooo much better to me because they're versatile. There are so many sub genre / catagories that we can do.
1. I love you / i want to be your man / marry you / you're the only one for me R&B
2. Women appreciation / i love my momma / thanks for being strong and putting up with my BS R&B.
3. I don't know what the hell I want right now / I'm confused R&B.
4. I've came from nothing to something R&B (see. Jaheim . he's good for that stuff)
5. I messed up, I know I've done you wrong / take me back R&B (if you're a singer and you don't have one of these in your catalog, you're not R&B).
6. I wanna do everything to you (sexually) see. Robert
7. I wanna love you every minute of every hour (but not quite ready to committ) R&B.
8. I don't love you anymore and here's the reason why R&B.
9. I HATE YOU, you've lost a good man R&B.
10. I don't love you, I just want to chill with you and have sex with you R&B.
AND THEY SAY WE DON'T EXPRESS OURSELVES
Well...being that the best R&B singer right now IMO is a female....I can't really say I agree. I mean the only males that are really killin are Anthony, Musiq, and John Legend. Oh almost forgot Robin Thicke. They win just because there are more. But I'll take Jazmine and Jill over both of all of them, Marshia if she counts too. Those 3 are WAY better vocalists than anyone out right now. As far as 90's and before it's pretty much the same thing....Male r&b isn't necessarily better, there are just more singers.
The best according to who? IMO no one singer is killing the game so crazy to be the best. But there are certainly more males who are doing therething and putting out good-great music right now. And let's slow down before we start throwing Jazmine Sullivan in the mix with established artists. She's crazy talented but too new to start throwing her in the mix like that. And we aren't just talking about vocals, it's the whole package.
