Why medical bills are killing us.

Someone has to pay for the care of the indigent. And I bet a lot of you were in favor of Obama care. Enjoy!

arent you in med school to be a future MD?

im a very healthy person with medical insurance but lets not act like the healthccare system in United States isnt a scam.

also good for you if you actually care to help ppl.

man **** american health care.

i had a sprained ankle (something ive had dozens of) but this one hurt sooooooo bad i thought something was really really wrong. i tried a walk in clinic but i didn't have the 250 upfront they wanted so i had to go to the er cause they would see me without dough up front.

even though the waiting room is completely empty when i get there it still takes an hour to get me into the back. then i wait 30 for an xray tech then another hour to finally see the doctor. this fool looks at my ankle says there is no break and i should R.I.C.E. it. im like bro do you not see the TWO ankle braces and Crutches i came in here on? i obviously am already RICING my ankle.

so i get the bill and for 1 xray and 5 minutes with a doctor to tell me to keep doing what i already was they hit me with a 2k ******g bill. i ignored that **** and low and behold it gets dropped down to 1k then eventually 600.00.

to me its STILL too much, but even worse them dropping the price multiple times let's me know that 2k was ******** from the jump and they were trying to now just get back the actual costs and the rest was all ******** money grubbing.

It depends on what you get done and how long you take. There are different levels of service for billing visits.
It's always $25 at my doctor here. I could be in there for 10 minutes and get a quick diagnosis for $25 or come in with a serious problem, get blood taken etc. and still only pay $25 even though it takes much longer.

Man, I had hemmeroids. I was in PAIN. I sat in the waiting area for about 6 hours. I finally saw someone. They "looked" at me, told me to eat more fiber. Sent me home.

$400

Word. If you ever have a medical bill past due, wait till they threaten you with collections and call them to explain to them that you can't pay the amount. Watch them magically drop that bill by more than 60%. Billing dept doesn't care.

Canada ftw.

Man you guys got it rough.
I'm thinking of moving to Canada. Not only for this reason, but this is definitely something I've considered.

People say, "boohoo more taxes," but one major surgery and you're in better shape than you'd be here in 'Murica

I still owe a doctor $300 for "signing my work documents, clearing me for work".

How in the hell do I owe someone $300 for signing papers!? I should have just signed it myself :x

America is the most corrupt country in the world, bar none.

When I broke my collarbone and had to get surgery it costed my whole savings to pay for it. I'm still paying off another 4k from my credit that I used. :smh:

Oh yeah, they won't give you any discount if you don't ask for it.

I'm glad I've experienced the medical problem in this country first hand and I must say it really is an eye opening one.

No insurance, bruh.

One of the perks for being in the military. I know military life has drawbacks but knowing i can go to the doctor/hospital for any reason and not pay a dime is ok with me

So, you think your surgery should have just been free of charge then? Somebody has to pay the costs associated with your care. If it's not you, it's us.

It's not even that, I just think some if not most of this medical bills are really over priced. I paid $500 bucks just to go see a surgeon to look at my xray and tell me whether or not I needed the surgery. That's not including going to ER to see a ER doctor so he or she could tell you if you could go see a surgeon. ER and xray along are about 2k if you don't have insurance.

I just believe if people have better medical help, then everyone will be a lot less on edge in this country.

You would be a lot more relax and less on edge knowing that your health and your family's health will get the best help if anything happens?

I won't argue that health care isn't pricey. Because it definitely is.

What I'm saying is that one of the biggest contributing factors is leeches on the system that don't contribute like the rest of us, causing costs to be driven up.

I sympathize with you though. I've paid out of pocket more than $7,500 for health care over the past four years even with insurance covering a large chunk. It sucks.

Ain't no such thing as health care being high because people leeching the systems.

And the leeching occurs mostly on the end of doctors, service providers and specialist.

The healthcare lobbyist outnumber most other lobbies out there.

It's a scam and fraudulent to even call this stuff health care. Need to call it Debt Care.

Well that's the thing, leeches or not people are people. If we are not willing to help each other out, then we're not really civil as we pretend to be.

I got laidoff from my job about 6 month prior to my accident and just started working at a new job for about a month, so no health insurance there. Would you consider a person in my situation at the time a leech?

"For anything that exists, the majority will always have a positive and a negative comment about it. The oppressive mindset of the majority has delayed humanity from evolving to its full potential."

I'm in the same boat, fully covered, in network and I've still paid over $10k in the last year alone due to multiple surgeries and lengthy hospital stays, CT scans, MRIs, prescriptions, etc etc. That's not including my monthly premium which is absurd now.

To see the how some of it is billed is also disgusting. There is absolutely no justification for some of the costs.

Exactly!

Who's really leeching here?

Is it the people with no job with no insurance or the medical people who leech off people's time of weakest in their health?

It costs money to provide health care. Your MRI cannot be free of cost to you. Hospitals have to make money or they can't stay in business.

Calling doctors the leeches is laughable. Unless you're paying out of pocket at a private institution, physicians aren't dictating how much your care costs.

I keep hearing about a different doctor after doctor, dentist, etc. on the news every other week under investigation for frauding the system for millions.

Yet a person is wrong for being upset and not wanting to pay 600 dollars for a x-ray and a splint.

This is why my friends that gave up on being doctors got into healthcare admin. They know where the money is.

Healthcare industry in the us will never invest in a product that will reach critical mass and get cheaper. It;s always gotta be some breakthrough this, or scanning technology that.

If people have worked to scale down the price of the personal computer, smartphones, stuff we carry in our pockets now, why hasn't healthcare tech gotten cheaper?

I think it;s a lot like the minimum wage situation. If our min. wage was tied to inflation it would be around $22/hr. If our healthcare wasn't run by big business, Maybe it would be attainable.
