Will science eventually replace religion?

You're right guys. Instead of trying to save grandma from cancer with the possibility of using chemo or drugs, lets just have a prayer circle.

The sheer ignorance and arrogance to bolster it in the last 3 pages chill my brain.
Dudes in here need to educate themselves instead of making dumb statements and asking stupid questions. "Why do we still have monkeys if evolution is true?", now we got ppl not saying science is a religion because of the ppl that adhere and follow it but science is equal to religion now because it has done just as bad as those who believe in a religion, "why is there world hunger" ugh
sick.gif
Enlighten us ******s then.  Why is that a dumb question, and what is the answer to it?  Logically what makes it a stupid question?
What do you think Evolution even is?

You're right guys. Instead of trying to save grandma from cancer with the possibility of using chemo or drugs, lets just have a prayer circle.
Now your just being dumb folks confront you with real facts and real answers and you start spewing nonsense .Notice nobody has posted a prayer bible verse etc they have been pointing out that science can be corrupted misused for the sake of greed just like anything else.

FutureMD: according to NDT, you are an agnostic with the conduct of an atheist.

So why are you making it sound like hospitals don't have adminstrators and insurance companies aren't a major thorn in the side of doctors?

Doctors just want to be doctors.

BUT they have to prescribe drugs. Why? Not to continue some conspiracy, but because DRUGS WORK. Therapies WORK. Procedures WORK.

Now we've got people in here saying "Yeah man, I know a pharmacist who doesn't care. He just sell drugs and doesn't give a damn"...all while ignoring the POINT of being a pharmacist.

At the end of the day, you're enriching the lives of citizens.

No, the process isn't perfect. No process ever is.

But don't assert that chemo is just some innately evil thing without understanding why we do it in the first place. Thats just blatant ignorance.

NDT just doesn't like labels. He's spoken on this before.

There isn't a term for people who don't do a lot of things...but in relation to the sheer number of theists unfortunately, there is such a term for people who aren't religious.

I don't like the term "atheist" either, but in relation to the claims:

1. "Do you believe in god(s)?" No.

2. "Do you know if there are god(s)?" No.

That makes me an agnostic-atheist.

^FutureMD, you are a proud US citizen. that is all.

And in the video NDT states that it is a waste of time to argue against something you don't even believe in. So why are you so fervent at arguing down religious people with your tactics?

This is why I posted the vid.

The practice of medicine isn't perfect.

There is money to be made...BUT there is a simple question here.

Do you want hospitals and healthcare to help people or is "science" (as you assert) just some other "religion" that doesn't help anyone?

There are problems with insurance companies and competition between drugs, but the end goal is ALWAYS the patients. The money made is a tangential issue.

If this is the case, don't say assinine statements like "science doesn't help anyone" if you know damn well it does. We can talk about problems in the practice of medicine. I'm fine with that. But don't come in here saying that all drugs, and all doctors, and all hospitals don't give a damn about their patients.

You just sound foolish.
Does it make sense now.. Of course where talking a general stand point here not everyone.  It's a shame you have to be told that.  It's pretty obvious that you haven't dealt with anything beyond biased articles.  Talk to me when you've been a doctor for 15 yrs, and your starting to lose all hope in everything your believed in.

One min. you say global-warming isn't science the next min. you say it is.  Global-warming is enviormental studies.  You talk about carbon dating likes it's the gospel, because someone told you it was.  Didn't they just find a dude last year, and they said some s**t about the dating didn't match up with the technology he had with him?  Don't they look at stars through some crap and depending on what color they see that tells them what the star is made of?  Flu shots?  If you want to bring that up I've known several people that have gotten them and got sick because it.  I could pick your post to pieces, but whats the point.  Your going to defend it to the death.

You've given nothing of value either.  Nothing but contradictions

Here is some valuable insight for you tho.  The only real effective thing science has given us is new innovative ways to waste time.  With a very few positive exceptions.

...If things go my way I should have a few passports establishing sovereignty elsewhere...but thats another story.

Why am I fervent at arguing what I don't believe in?

Well frankly, I don't tell you what I believe.

In fact, I never tell people what I believe.

I merely ask that people back up what they believe.

If you assert your belief in something, the burden of proof is on your to explain it.

We have people in this thread who couldn't pass a high school science class, but yet i'm being fervent in correcting them? Laughable.

Oh...lets not forget how much religion...specifically christianity, infringes on my autonomy as a non-religious citizen.

They're stupid questions and dumb statements because you don't understand evolution at all. If you actually knew what evolution was you wouldn't ask those questions. Asking why an animal still exists if we evolved from them shows the clear misunderstanding and fallacy in the question itself. Humans and monkeys share a common ancestor that we both evolved from. You need to know what a species is, genetic drift, etc. FTR, I'm pretty sure the mentally ill could understand what evolution is in layman's terms.

If you really want to understand though, like really, and I mean REALLY and you're not just gonna continue to remain ignorant watch this vid:

You're welcome.

What?

Starting to lose hope? I anticipate having a different view of things, but the practice of medicine still at the end of the day will be patient focused. Period.

What are you talking about fam?

I never said global warming wasn't science. YOU said that.

And carbon dating isn't "gospel" its goddamn radioactivity. Its merely understanding. What aren't you getting? Its stuff we learned!

And so what if they find a dude who breaks what we expect to find? That just means we learn more and keep moving. We never claimed to have all the answers.
Don't they look at stars through some crap and depending on what color they see that tells them what the star is made of?
thats what spectroscopy is

What does someone getting sick from a flu shot (very rare. VERY rare) have to do with "science" not being useful?

Yeah. You're right. Vaccines are complete garbage. Lets just all die at 40.
You've given nothing of value either.  Nothing but contradictions

Yeah. You're right. Enjoy not having to wonder if you've eaten enough nutrients this month while checking your email.

Wow. I didn't read this guys other posts. Son said the only real effective thing science has given us is new ways to waste time. I just can't. Wow just WOW. I'm not going to respond to you anymore RELLI45. Maybe pleasurephd may bother to go off on you for the ignorance you're spreading.

A bit shocked Wr is backing you too, thought he possessed common sense.

Atheism is prominent because people just don't believe in the claims religion presents. This doesn't even touch on how irrational the concepts themselves are.

At the very root, I don't believe the claims you assert theologically because there is no evidence to back them up. So no matter how interesting your ideas are or how looney some of the stories are, at the end of the day, if you refuse to prove the claims asserted as both inerrant and infallible by your religion, then I'm just not going to believe you.

There have always been non-believers, but people could never comfortably reveal their thoughts on the matter.

How is prayer working out for you?

[rule]
Not accurate. Again, you're making a stretch into an excuse for organized religion.

Religion ADVOCATES this action and ENCOURAGES certain behaviors. Make no mistake about this.

You are correct when you speak on "science" but religion is different. Religion is a concrete ideology defined by its adherents and the sources of the religion that have a list of principles and widely recognized concepts that link members of the groups together.

A muslim who decides to kill infidels is IN LINE with their religion.

A christian who decides to kill non-believers, after unsuccessfully trying to convert them, is IN LINE with their religion.

Is it morally reprehensible? Sure.

But at this point you should say, the only way to be a reasonable, modern theist is to ignore parts of your holy teachings, books, etc. that are immoral...So the only way to be a good theist is to ignore significant parts of your theology.

That doesn't bode well for the legitimacy of their religion.

Yes.

We have ALWAYS created the characters was want to submit to and how they act and what they do.

Its a stretch of an analogy but its not completely unreasonable.
[rule]A jesuit proposed the big bang...;)

Where did I say that prayer was more effective for cancer?? That's right, I didn't. I was just laughing at the claim that "CURES" for cancer have been developed. Don't let that stop you though, Mr. Atheist Crusader. Make sure you "disprove" all believers! Google search, copy, paste, defensiveness..........Onward!!!

Ok, let me get this striaght I'm the ignorant one, but you believe in a theory to be the truth the way and the light

.  How are guys any different from religious fanatics again?

FutureMD you said a gang of s**t wasn't science on your reply to one of my post, and you posting like you do only helps you it's absolutely senseless.  Just like a lot of your replies to my post.

You guys say science is a guess, but you defend it like it's the truth just like a Christian would with Christianity.  I say science doesn't have a clue which is really no difference then saying it's a guess

.  You just get made because I pointed out the obvious.  Which is science has gone to the corporations and dollar sign mind.  It can't be trusted anymore then politics or religion.  They're all about profit and have done no good, because they've allowed profit to get in the way of the pure message and intent.

When science "replaces religion" what will be done with the "non intelligent, ignorant" people like myself who still believe

White Jesus will come back and get you and take you to heaven where you can watch all the Tyler Perry movies your heart desires.

Ah yes.

Do you know what a cure is?

Is it temporary relief? Is it a permanent one?

You know its possible to get rid of cancer...and still have it come back, right?

And miss me with the "google' craptacular argument. You can do better than that. I assume I just don't know anything either, right? I HAVE to use google, huh?

Don't equate your ignorance on a topic with my understanding AND ability to recall information. If you took something seriously, i'm sure you would commit a few things to memory too.

Can you prove whatever you believe to be true, real, or valid beyond merely wanting it to be true?

Otherwise, at that point I will never see a reason to believe what you're saying or accept it.

Remember, you assert this stuff to be true.

Science isn't "a guess." Hypotheses are used to confirm theories. If the tested hypotheses don't support the theory then the theory is not supported.

What is your answer? Lets get rid of science. The middle ages weren't that bad. I mean to be honest, you're the bastion of intellect who wondered why we still have monkeys and how we know the sun is made of hydrogen and helium.

Just remember that.
