Will science eventually replace religion?

Keep going though.

Lets find out how ancient crystals in the hidden scrolls reveal some sort of secret knowledge.

But you can still die of cholera from not washing your hands. Took forever for them to figure THAT one out.

Science isn't "a guess." Hypotheses are used to confirm theories. If the tested hypotheses don't support the theory then the theory is not supported.

What is your answer? Lets get rid of science. The middle ages weren't that bad. I mean to be honest, you're the bastion of intellect who wondered why we still have monkeys and how we know the sun is made of hydrogen and helium.

Just remember that.

:lol this. so many times this. Cant take what this kid says seriously.

that's called a guess bruh. Just has a more scientific sound to it. It's still a guess.

When science "replaces religion" what will be done with the "non intelligent, ignorant" people like myself who still believe

Can you prove whatever you believe to be true, real, or valid beyond merely wanting it to be true?

Otherwise, at that point I will never see a reason to believe what you're saying or accept it.

Science can't definitively do that either though.

She said nothing about what you believe, this is a lot of folks gripe with you. Tunnel vision, it's the equivalent of having a bible thumper beat you over the head with scriptures every single day :lol

Well I took it to mean the following:

If science "replaces religion" then what reason would she have to believe if the entire notion of science is based on making provable assertions?

People need to understand that when you die, there's nothing in this world you can take with you; including your religion.

Remember, you assert this stuff to be true.

I didnt ask you to believe

White Jesus will come back and get you and take you to heaven where you can watch all the Tyler Perry movies your heart desires.

Im sure in your head that was funny, but in writing its not

NO.

A hypothesis is something you want to prove using an experiment to support a theory you have.

Hypotheses can be proven or not proven based on the evidence they collect.

A set of proven hypotheses are called a theory.

If you make a "guess" about something, that means that you're not collecting evidence to ascertain whether or not that thing is valid or true. You're skipping the experimental process.

I know you didn't.

I merely asked you what your reasons for believing are.

Theists will always shift the goalposts when its convenient...not because they care about proving whether or not something is true. They just WANT to believe.

So ultimately my answer to you would be that you'd still be irrational. If you were really concerned you'd say something like:

"Well I want this to be true, but since I don't have any evidence for it to be true, then I can't accept it as true. All I can do is speculate about what might be true, in the same way that I might be reincarnated into a broom in the next life."

I guess the world owes it's gratitude to western science and medicine. It's amazing how they went from not wearing gloves and washing hands between surgeries to rubber gloves and hygiene.

Thanks to all those battlefield doctors who learned that cutting off body parts with the same knife that hasn't been clean leads to infection.

Thank you western medicine for testing out diseases on poor people so that rich people can have cures.

Thank you for all the thieving and body manipulation it took to get us to where we are today.

Thank you western medicine for learning that you have to clean a operating table off between surgeries.

Thank you for sending tainted medicine to 3rd world countries.

Thank you western medicine for my life!!!!!!!!

I read my post a couple of times
Im not the smartest, being that I am a simple minded christian and all, but I dont see how my statement could be interpreted like that.
But what do I know

But why are you asking me a question without answering mine, you have terrible communications skills.
You not even listening to me thats why we could never be :rolleyes

That is merely your "guess" at what other people do when they are guessing something.

A hypothesis (from Ancient Greek ὑπόθεσις, from Greek ὑποτιθέναι – hypotithenai meaning "to put under" or "to suppose,"[1] plural hypotheses) is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon.

You're ENTIRELY welcome.

How does this change what i'm saying?

A "Guess" is an assertion you make without really knowing or taking the time to prove something

A "Hypothesis" is a proposition you put forth that you test the validity of.

They're stupid questions and dumb statements because you don't understand evolution at all. If you actually knew what evolution was you wouldn't ask those questions. Asking why an animal still exists if we evolved from them shows the clear misunderstanding and fallacy in the question itself. Humans and monkeys share a common ancestor that we both evolved from. You need to know what a species is, genetic drift, etc. FTR, I'm pretty sure the mentally ill could understand what evolution is in layman's terms.

If you really want to understand though, like really, and I mean REALLY and you're not just gonna continue to remain ignorant watch this vid:You're welcome.
Ok, let me get this striaght I'm the ignorant one, but you believe in a theory to be the truth the way and the light:lol .  How are guys any different from religious fanatics again?

FutureMD you said a gang of s**t wasn't science on your reply to one of my post, and you posting like you do only helps you it's absolutely senseless.  Just like a lot of your replies to my post.

You guys say science is a guess, but you defend it like it's the truth just like a Christian would with Christianity.  I say science doesn't have a clue which is really no difference then saying it's a guess:lol .  You just get made because I pointed out the obvious.  Which is science has gone to the corporations and dollar sign mind.  It can't be trusted anymore then politics or religion.  They're all about profit and have done no good, because they've allowed profit to get in the way of the pure message and intent.
Oh so you didn't watch either vid? Then you come through with assumptions about something I have not stated in this or any other thread? Like I said I'm not gonna bother with you dude, you're not just ignorant, you're close minded, you think you have it figured it out, you think you're stance is right when it's clearly not. Believe what you will but know on this matter you're wrong. You have an incredibly ridiculous bias and can not separate science from the agendas human beings have and do with it where as religious text already has the intolerant dogma in it before any person does a thing with it.

A person's greed and how they use scientific advancements in society to benefit themselves has nothing to do with science. You're adding something to science to make this argument. Science by itself has nothing to do with it. Saying hospitals are business don't have anything to do with science. Science does not dictate who gets what treatment or cure based on how much money is given to get it. If you can't see the difference just know that's the source of your ignorance.

Hypotheses is scientific for GUESS.....It's all a guess evolution the perceived composition of the sun all of it is besides what's been proven.  Which is not that much.  Did they take any samples of the sun and analyze it?  No the looked at it from millions of miles away and told you "Oh this is what it's made out of".  This is your gospel.

Hypothesis is just...hypotheses. Its not "scientific for guess." We're not translating words here.

No. Its not freaking gospel.

Take a intro to chemistry class or something. I'm dead serious.

Elements emit light in different wavelengths often beyond the visual light spectrum that can be detected. You can observe the light from the sun and look at the incident rays and determine their composition.

We've been doing it for almost 200 years.

Its verified. It even works on earth.

...we ain't out here just making **** up for fun.

What is wrong with you?

Sans for the Tyler Perry part, isn't that what you all believe? Isn't Revelation generally about the End of Days? Thessalonians 4:16-17

The resurrection of the righteous will occur. "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first." —1 Thessalonians 4:16
In one single event, the saved who are alive at Christ's coming will be caught up together with the resurrected to meet the Lord in the air. "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." —1 Thessalonians 4:17

At the end of the day, neither science or religion can be regarded as the end all be all. Both can claim, but neither has definitive answer to everything. This is fact. So there's really no reason for either side to be on the soapbox preaching about which can replace the other. As long as there are humans, there will be struggle which in my opinion leads people to believe. Humans also have the desire to know/ learn therefore science will never go away.

Ah yes.

Do you know what a cure is?

Is it temporary relief? Is it a permanent one?

You know its possible to get rid of cancer...and still have it come back, right?

And miss me with the "google' craptacular argument. You can do better than that. I assume I just don't know anything either, right? I HAVE to use google, huh?

Don't equate your ignorance on a topic with my understanding AND ability to recall information. If you took something seriously, i'm sure you would commit a few things to memory too.

Miss me with those questions, and don't assume your level of knowledge is greater than mine. You clearly believe that you are an intellectual with supreme knowledge, and that anyone with different views must be an idiot. Enough so to consistently spew your views onto the members of this forum. In fact, not just spew, but really try to drill your views onto others. You don't miss a single chance to do so. You're in every damn thread saying the same damn things. It's beyond predictable, and quite honestly tiring. How are you any different than people that you mock?? When confronted about your narrow mindedness and inaccuracies, you have NOTHING to do but get defensive. NT General has become the "Debate with Silly" forum, and I'm damn tired of it.

Thing is..."science" as a process is superior.

You can say which one you prefer, but if we're going to try to determine the validity of a claim, then religion can't tell you that.

Religion says, what religion says.

"Science" is the process of learning more and trying to validate what we know. Nothing else, nothing more.

Uh...from time to time. But thats an assumption you're making on YOUR behalf. You'll take it how you will.

I mean frankly I'm not here to comport with your expectations. I'm here to discuss the validity of the scientific method and its advantages of trying to validate assertions.

I would hope that people would see the flaws in adopting a limited religious view (as they all are) as a means of making a claim when religions claims are easily debunked and often not corroborated with any evidence of their own.

Good thing I have enough of a conscience to address it in the appropriate threads then.

It seems ironic that merely do I not create topics on the matter, but I also manage to speak to the thread title or discussion...now you're telling me NOT to do that?

I'm mocking people?

Please.

If you assert something and can't back it up...then...we have nothing to discuss. Simple.
