Will science eventually replace religion?

That has to be your reply. You ask about evolution, I give you an answer then you make the accusation that I "believe in a theory to be the truth the way and the light", you try to equate my stance to that of religious person defending their religion while ignoring any and all facts that have been presented to you prior, specifically ignoring the main fact in that comparison that religious ppl do not provide facts in their defense of religion. You just being wrong and strong son. You refuse to educate yourself on the matter and you're clearly not open minded enough to genuinely ask questions so you can learn something so you opt to not budge from arguing from ignorance.
re·li·gion/riˈlijən/
Noun:
 1. The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, esp. a personal God or gods.
 2. Details of belief as taught or discussed

Believing can't be taught unlike everything else.  You can't teach someone to have a state of mind.  Religion says things like "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" which is just as false as evolution.   Believing is something that can't be taught either you understand it or you don't.

On the topic of religion? Your words, not mine. Its more cognitive dissonance than anything.

But elsewhere on any other topic, the sky is the limit.

You can't blame some people. They've had this stuff drilled into them since birth and very few are fortunate enough to learn about how religion works psychologically anyways so they will defend it at any chance.
Get this straight being a believer and being religious are to different things.  Believing is seeing if you don't believe you ain't going to see.  Just because you didn't see and experience doesn't mean it's not true.  And you've never seen for yourself on either side.  Since the days of your schooling you've had evolution drilled in your head.  So do you fall in the category of buffoons you just described.
Yo...you serious bruh?

Like for real?

Evolution is a PROVEN SCIENTIFIC CONCEPT.

I can PROVE evolution.

You can't prove your religious beliefs.

You can't will things to be true just because you want them to be true. They either ARE or they ARE NOT.

Oh and you have a point. Just because you didn't witness something doesn't mean its not true. But that doesn't make it true automatically.

You still have to prove it.

When explorers left to find the "new world" they didn't know what they'd find so whats your point? Anything is possible but if you assert something, then you're responsible for backing it up.

The burden of proof is on the person asserting the claim.

You also forgot this word:

Define Evolution then since you clearly don't know what the hell that is.

Evolution isn't a general notion or an abstract idea. Its an observed phenomenon and provable.

I use concept to encapsulate the idea being presented. Its so funny you can use google to define words but you cant use google to learn what every high school senior knows.

Irony of your argument is that religion is one in the same....

This proves that u should be wrote off=this proves religion should be wrote off

Your biased articles and no real life experiences etc...=your biased bibles/korans with no real life experiences or proof.

hospitals are a huge business not saying they screw ppl over. but yea they are,=churches etc... are a huge business not saying they screw ppl over but yea they are aka direct/indirect results of more tragedies/travesties then anything known to man..

if they dont have product to push they make no money.... there product gives you hope.... =if preachers etc dont have product/the word they make no money... their product aka unproven doctrine and false claims gives u hope.

yea they may get rid of this and that solve this and that>religion has never got rid of anything nor solved this or that...
That's exactly my point this is FuturMD and Atheist in general argument towards religion.  There beliefs in science are a direct reflection of there arguments against religion.
No.

Religion doesn't allow you to change your mind.

Science allows you to change your mind. Science doesn't claim to be absolute, nor does it make assertions beyond what it can prove. Religion does that without a care.
The funny thing is it's true they are one in the same.
They're not.
I don't believe in religion, but I do believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins.
Oh really? I wonder where you got THAT idea.
roll.gif

That effectively eliminates thousands of other religions, i'd say.
But for me to say all science is bad is just as insane as FuturMD saying all wars, killing, and mayhem is because of religion.  On both sides you have bad apples.  So to demonize the entire side is crazy
Here is the difference you don't get.

Being religious is voluntary.

Something being proven to be true...isn't.

So if you CHOOSE to be religious, then you're defending the assertions that religion makes.

If you don't like it, then don't be religious.

So...like I was saying,  as such YOU DON'T GET TO PICK AND CHOOSE IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE RELIGIOUS. WHO ARE YOU TO SAY THAT THE FUNDIES WHO REPRESENT CHRISTIANITY AREN'T FOLLOWING THEIR BIBLE?

THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN BE A DECENT MODERN THEIST IS TO IGNORE VAST SEGMENTS OF YOUR THEOLOGY.

Please feel free to actually prove evolution false if you're actually capable of doing it. It would be a feat to see given you don't even know what evolution is.

So, how are you guys any different then a religious person saying, "It's true because my pastor told me so and the bible proves it's the truth"?  No difference.  You testify for something that you've never seen or experienced for yourself, but you denounce religion for the same reason.   Hmmm

*facepalm*

The things we believe in can be tested and proven in real life. The things your religion/holy book claims? not so much.

There was a study that said the human brain is hardwired for belief in a higher power. Even if you don't care for religion, why are you treading on someones right to believe what they want.

Granted I know about dopamine in the brain and how some will argue that sensation from spirituality is the same as being high on drugs or what not, but why not let people do them?

Maybe that's why we have such a bad drug problem as a nation. People are not allowed to truly believe in things without persecution.

When everyone's world is perfect, science will replace religion. Until then, some people need the strength religion gives them to keep living this crappy life.

No one's stopping anyone from believing. If we shouldn't "tread on someone's right to believe," why should you tread on our right to question eachothers' beliefs?

Disagree with someone =/= treading on their rights. It's not like we are trying to make their way of life illegal to ban it or tell them they will be damned for eternity.

Who persecutes people with a different point of view than them more than the religious establishment? Hell, Jesus even told you to do so in the Bible.

You're welcome.

You're ENTIRELY welcome. ;)

I just hope you've opted out of Obamacare. Someone needs your space in line.

I wasn't thanking you. I was thanking the establishment for using barbaric tactics to learn about science and medicine.

Do you think that you and the scientific establishment are one in the same?

daaag...explains a lot

Disagree with someone =/= treading on their rights. It's not like we are trying to make their way of life illegal to ban it or tell them they will be damned for eternity.

I think it applies to both sides. The christian church and many fundamentalist movements are trampling on peoples individual beliefs and giving them something else instead to believe in whether they like it or not.

This wasn't pointed at non religious folks, but people who try to dictate to others what reality is.

We talk about how it's subjective all the time yet this gets overshadowed by people bashing the other side.

but the main difference is that one science is a process and with this process their are proven irrefutable facts.it allows growth, room for error and progression. it proves a cause and a effect. religion has not EVER done any of these things.

Just like you said you BELIEVE jesus etc... there isnt a process involved in this, nor can you prove or provide irrefutable facts to support your claim. A scientist can state rain comes from the sky... can show you the process in which it occurs, can show a cause and effect, and it can be seen. Nothing about any religion falls into that category.

Same with any other facets of religions, you cannot show prove provide findings, nor prove a cause and effect for sinning and ending up in hell.

It can be shown and shown that if you commit a crime aka cause you can end up in jail aka effect.

But the og answer is no. religion will never go away. there will always be racism, separatism, classism, and poor downtrotten ppl, there will always be an oppressor and a oppressed, our society will always have a crabs in a barrel mentality, a hierarchy. and religion is used to create these situations, control the masses that are subjected to these conditions, and keep ppl content with these conditions by the powers that be. and for the ppl who are under these conditions, it wil be there as a coping mechanism, a answer to questions they either a. in poor education/impoverished who are limited to educating themselves, b. in conditions where opportunities are limited, and outlook is bleak at best. c. closed minded uneducated areas.

If you notice churches etc.... are like armed service recruitment centers.... they are few and far between in areas that are rich in opportunities, education, and money. but areas that are impoverished, oppressed, inequality, less educated, less opportunities, etc....

if u notice religion is only prevalent and is significant under these factors... do u think that its one big coincidence? are you saying that god/allah etc is only for ppl who are uneducated, or from areas who education system is lower, or ppl who currently/historically are oppressed, treated less then equal, or areas where the ppl have less in terms of resources aka opportunities/money/power etc,,,,

To compare lets look at it like this... where is religion more significant... sherman oaks or compton, hollywood or harlem, miami or mississippi, so on and so forth... why is it most major religious crusades are in 3rd world countries as oppose to rodeo drive? why is it that every single war the losers had those factors and guess what... they were heavy religious. And also do u think its a coincidence that religious is very significant in areas under these factors...

Show/name a area anywhere religious is very significant and i promise u it will be a area with ppl who are oppressed/discriminated against or closeminded, have fewer or limited opportunities/resources/power/money and are uneducated or education isnt high standards...

What's sad and amazing at the same time is that you keep contradicting yourself and pedaling forwards without realizing it.
Really when did I do that.  I never let any of you know what I believed until that reply with shoefreakbaby.  So where did I contradict myself at.
*facepalm*

The things we believe in can be tested and proven in real life. The things your religion/holy book claims? not so much.
while your at it slap yourself with that palm. How was it proven, because someone told you it was proven.  Did you see it yourself.  Religion has people to that say what the bible says has been proven just like science.  Hell scientist have even said they've found evidence consistent with the bible.  Archaeologist are constantly finding new discovers consistent with the bible, but probably according to FuturMD that isn't science either.

It's all one in the same, but you guys refuse to see that.  And I'm the stupid one

So, how are you guys any different then a religious person saying, "It's true because my pastor told me so and the bible proves it's the truth"?  No difference.  You testify for something that you've never seen or experienced for yourself, but you denounce religion for the same reason.   Hmmm:lol .
Because before calling a hypothesis a scientific theory, there is research, data gathered, and evidence discovered that supports w/e claim/theory is being put forth.

This is the MAIN difference, that I hope you can grasp. Believing something based off of supported evidence is not the same as believing something based off faith. You do not need to proof anything once you claim you believe based off faith. Where as in science there is no place for faith. We don't have faith that gravity will keep us on the ground, we don't have faith that vaccinations will actually help/cure our sicknesses, it's not based off faith. It's based on evidence, trial and error, previous experiences that are reliable to predict the next.

Now if you're saying every single individual has to see and experience something stated by a scientific theory or do the experiment themselves in order to not to be the same as any religious person having faith in something you're completely missing the point. COMPLETELY.

You need to educate yourself and recognize peer reviewing.

Despite seeing him in these discussions maybe literally 1000's of times, I've never seen Putty try to dictate who you can marry, what you can do with your own body, or what you can look up on the internet (vote for Romney and it's coming) by forcing his own beliefs into national policy.
