Work/Life Balance Is Overrated

What about the yambs...won't anybody please think of the yambs

Yambs are easier to attain then money.

A lot of dudes gonna come in here and pat themselves on the pack for being hard workers but lets consider some other points

-If you like your work environment that's all well and good, but if you don't, or it is health or stressful, it can really **** wit your mind. And in the case of some jobs, your body

-Some may think they are a hard worker for working tons of others, but it may be that your don't value your time very much.

-Everyone trys to maximize their utility, and everyone is different. If someone only needs 60K to leave and they can make that in 40 hours, so that they can enjoy their hobbies or family then that's good for them. Other people don't value leisure time as much, they value money, so they have 70 plus to work at a job so the can earn that high salary.

-If your working 60 hours and the next guy is working 40 hrs, but your both getting paid the same. One are not only the harder worker, but also the bigger sucker.

-As your get older you should be making or the less time your should be working to make the same amount. Ideally both

-Your time is your money. Spending tons of time at work, for no good reason, if your not getting paid extra for is not a good look.

-Nothing wrong with working hard, as long as your getting paid for it and it is getting your ahead. Never break your back for a company, unless you own it.

I couldn't disagree more.

I could care less how the next man gets his money. I'm gettin mines!

If I work 60 hrs a week and you work 40 and we both make 80k that doesn't mean your better.

I'm sorry but working a 9-5 doesn't make you a workaholic, :lol.

50-60 hours a week is nothing, there's 168 hours in a week.

The hell are you doing w/ the other 100?

I didn't mean 9-5 was considered a workaholic I was just referring to the people who complain about a 9-5

^ Man you're putting in an additional 20 hours a week and getting the same pay as dude putting in 20 hours less and you don't see anything wrong with that?

Man go ahead with all that...straight sheep mentality.

What does it mean then? I am very very efficient at my job so if a project that takes 5 hours for my co-worker to complete and I can do it for 3-4 hours, doesn't it mean I am obviously better skilled than him?

A few years ago, a very rich businessman decides to take a vacation to a small tropical island in the South Pacific. He has worked hard all his life and has decided that now is the time to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He is excited about visiting the island because he’s heard that there is incredible fishing there. He loved fishing as a young boy, but hasn’t gone in years because he has been so busy working to save for his retirement.

So on the first day, he has his breakfast and heads to the beach. It’s around 9:30 am. There he spots a fisherman coming in with a large bucket full of fish!

How long did you fish for? he asks. The fisherman looks at the businessman with a wide grin across his face and explains that the fishes for about three hours every day. The businessman then asks him why he returned so quickly.

Don’t worry, says the fisherman, There’s still plenty of fish out there.

Dumbfounded, the businessman asks the fisherman why he didn’t continue catching more fish. The fisherman patiently explains that what he caught is all he needs. I’ll spend the rest of the day playing with my family, talking with my friends and maybe drinking a little wine. After that I’ll relax on the beach.”

Now the rich businessman figures he needs to teach this peasant fisherman a thing or two. So he explains to him that he should stay out all day and catch more fish. Then he could save up the extra money he makes and buy and even bigger boats to catch even more fish. The he could keep reinvesting his profits in even more boats and hire many other fisherman to work for him. If he works really hard, in 20 or 30 years he’ll be a very rich man indeed.

The businessman feels pleased that he’s helped teach this simple fellow how to become rich. Then the fisherman looks at the businessman with a puzzled look on his face and asks what he’ll do after he becomes very rich.

The businessman responds quickly You can spend time with your family, talk with your friends, and maybe drink a little wine. Or you could just relax on the beach.

Life in a nutshell for a small percentage of us!

I just graduated from physical therapy school in August, took in my boards in October, and now getting ready for a move to Florida (Hopefully) in January. So right now, after four clinical internships pretty much working 40 hours a day, I"ve just been sitting around all day. I never thought I would miss having something to do during the day. I can't wait until I start working.

If I work 60 hrs a week and you work 40 and we both make 80k that doesn't mean your better.

If we do the same job then there are the scenarios.

A: Not taking into account our level of output. You're a sucka and don't value your time very much

B: If you're accomplishing more, then you're still a sucka because you not getting paid for your extra work

C: If we have the same level of output. Then yes, I'm a better worker.

D: You're getting more done and tryin to get the next promotion. Then there is a method to madness and I can respect that.

And not against hard work, or working a lot. But you gotta ask yourself is it the best more for me right now and in the future. Maybe in those extra 20 I doing something else you beat you up the ladder (get my Masters, skills a essential skills, networking). Or maybe I'm taking leisure time to keep me sane and high functioning. On average the most success and productive people I know take their leisure time just as serious as they do their work. The plan out their weekends and off days, they take regular vacations.

And any company will prefer the employee who gets the same amount of work done in 40 hours over the one that takes 60. It send a high competency signal

Usually when you work over 40 isn't it time and a half??.. I know mines is..

after this semester I'm going to pick up a graveyard shift job hopefully and find a day job, i need to start stacking, 20yrs old with 0 in the bank
