Worst Divison in Baseball?

Cubs had three or four guys who had possibly the worst season of their careers last year.  You expect those players to come back strong. You don't clean house.

I don't see the Cubs making any noise.

Derrek Lee is getting older and he had a solid year last season, will it be Lee of 2009 or Lee of 2008.

 Soriano is declining.

Soto will bounce back.

Bradley is gone, replaced with Byrd and Nady.

Zambrano is a head case, there are no guarantees that Dempster will return to the career season form of 2008

Marmol is  shaky option as a Closer.

Too many holes.

Looks like a lot of you homers got your panties in a bunch from me stating the truth. First off the Rangers and Mariners aren't solid teams. Don't give me that bs about "right now", it's February  and every team is only able to be judged on paper. These conversations can only be truly observed at the end of a season. Let's face it Mariners & Rangers fans, your teams haven't been relevant in the last decade. How many playoff games have either one of you guys won in the 2000's? The Mariners won 4 playoff games in the entire decade, that's definitely a solid club

. Lets take a look at the Rangers, a team that hasn't been relevant since the 90's. The A's are the biggest choking team in the postseason. What's the streak again A's fans?

That leaves the Angels, a team that is the definition of solid team and that my friends is the definition of the weakest division in baseball. Sounds to me like a lot of you guys are talking in "potential" terms for the new season. If that's the case, well then nobody really knows because this season is yet to be played.

Outside of the AL East, you can say this about any division.

How many playoff games did the Brewers win this decade? Reds? Pirates.  The Reds and Pirates have been losers for more than a decade.  The Reds last winning season was in 2000, the Pirates last winning season was 1992.

The Cubs haven't done #+%!.  When you are relevant for losing and not winning a title in over a century, well that's a big of an L one can possible take.  Now they are on the decline.

The Brewers made the playoffs for the first time since in 25 years last year.

The only team that had consistent success this past decade was the Cardinals.  It was the Astros and the Cards from 2000-2005 (w/exception of the Cubs in 2003)

With the exception of the last three years, the A's have been a consistent winner.  Playoff chokers or not, they have more to stand on than the Cubs, Reds, Pirates or Brewers combined.

I know you are going to love this as a Cards fan, but the Cubs are bigger chokers than the A's.  2003 NLCS with a big lead and you blow game 6 and 7 at home.  2008 you have the best record in the NL and get swept....

I just don't see how people don't see the Rangers and Mariners as solid teams when they both finished well above .500 last season and went out and made improvements to their teams.  I just don't see how those two are not "solid" teams in the eyes of some of you.
ooIRON MANoo you're entitled to your opinion, but I personally feel the NL West isn't stronger than the Central, it's about even. This year will tell a new tale of who the weakest division in all of baseball is. In the recent decade is what I based my opinion off of.

You are better than this.

As if sweeping your division champion out of the playoffs two years in a row wasn't enough.

You want to talk about a dog fight in the division, the NL West was a dogfight the entire year.

All these teams have improved, and the Arizona Diamondbacks are getting a lot of healthy bodies back (Webb, Jackson)

The Giants made some solid signings and Sabean finally stopped giving a lot of money to players that don't deserve it (Renteria, Rowand, Zito)

The Rockies finally gave Ian Stewart the 3b job, Tulo will bounce back and Jeff Francis is back as well.

The only weak team will be the Padres.

Coming into this year, I will stick with saying that either of the Central leagues will be the weakest.

Tulo will bounce back? I didn't realize batting .297 with 32 bombs and 92 RBI needs to be bounced back from.

Simply not true...

Our best DH option signed with a division rival this weekend over a million dollars more salary

He signed at 8 million with a full no trade clause.  You think he's worth that??  Sox weren't gonna do 7 million or even 6 million...

Everyone hates the rotating DH idea with two subpar players, but I like our starting pitching coming in and we're gonna need some guys to turn it back around like Quentin and Rios.  I'm excited to see Beckham.  And if the offense sucks, I can't see Kenny standing pat and not pulling a trade for a capable DH, no matter what Ozzie wants...

Find out what the Sox and twinkies payroll is this year and then claim they're cheap.  twinkies have been before but can't with the new stadium.

How you call the Sox cheap is beyond me.  Look at the payroll these past few years.  reinsdorf is cheaper with the Bulls but is more passionate about baseball and has clearly been willing to spend if you've followed the team at all this past decade...

Yeah, that should tell you something

Look at his pre and post all star game stats.

Eliminate a forgettable April and May, and Tulo had a crazy year.  So by bounce back I mean he is only going to get better

I'm not debating whether or not Damon is worth the contract he was given but to let him sign within our division over a million dollars is unacceptable given the fact the Twins acquired Orlando Hudson.

"You can't spend a dollar if you only have 50 cents,''  - Kenny Williams

That says it all to me, really.  Maybe cheap isn't the right word to describe the White Sox but they're definitely reluctant to spend money.

Example: Chone Figgins is the prototypical William-Gullien kind of player and the Sox didn't even make an attempt to sign him.
“Well, if I’m being completely honest money is more of the issue now.We expected a little more support than we’ve gotten,

What are you talking about, clown?
Nice personal attack, maybe you should step your reading and comprehension up

...Okay, I'm sorry I missed that. Had I read that, I would have realized that you seriously are basing your arguments on a DECADE of information, all of which has no effect on the coming season, no tangible impact at all.

That doesn't ridiculous to you in the slightest? What a joke.

AL west has the highest winning percentage as a division. NL central has the worst.

I dont think its fair to call any division the worst because it seems like every division has a dominant winner, teams looming with large payrolls that look like champions on paper but consistently under perform (
smh.gif
), teams rebuilding on a budget and losers who have become a breeding ground for talent. But with that being said I think the division with the surest outcome year in and year out is the NL Central.

Since the creation of the NL Central the only team from its current structure to win a World Series has been the '06 Cards. St. Louis continues to be the cream of the crop in that division and with two big time aces AND the best hitter in baseball I think they'll dominate in 2010. The Cubs gave them a little challenge for a few seconds last year but they just havent done enough in the offseason to be in the conversation when it comes to contenders for the Central crown. Pitching and defense wins period and the Brewers have a terrible pitching staff; Astros ehhhh, and Pittsburgh will never be good because theyll never keep or spend money on the great players they produce. Lastly the Reds hype train is picking up but that pitching staff has a lot to prove if theyre to achieve the success that people are hoping they will have..

Every other division has a surefire rivalry with a 3rd team creeping on the come up that can steal the whole thing. The Central just doesnt have that..
