edit: anyone know what they're doing with these stadiums now? I've always wondered this after a country hosts a Summer Olympics.  Do they just get rented out/used for random sports meets/competitions?

[h1]Beijing National Aquatics Center[/h1][h2]Post-Olympics[/h2]
After the Olympics, the Water Cube was opened to the public on select days of the week beginning in June 2009, and was also used as the site for a production of Swan Lake amongst other shows. The building's popularity has spawned many copycat structures throughout China.[sup][14][/sup] On October 19, 2009, the Water Cube was closed to the public to begin a massive renovation of a portion of the complex into a water park.[sup][15][/sup] The building re-opened on August 8, 2010, marking the two year anniversary of the beginning of the 2008 Summer Olympics. The redesigned facility contains numerous water rides and slides, a wave pool, and spa areas. The renovations were performed in order to bring renewed interest to the Olympic Green area as part of the games' legacy.[sup][5]'[/sup]

[h1]Beijing National Stadium[/h1][h3]Post-Olympics [/h3][h3]On the first anniversary, 8 August 2009, the stadium hosted a performance of the opera Turandot, and the 2009 Supercoppa Italiana (Italian Super Cup) final, the traditional curtain raiser to the Italian football league season.[sup][26][/sup] The Beijing Guo’an football club was scheduled to play at the stadium, but later backed out of their agreement, citing the embarrassment of using an 80,000+ seat venue for games that routinely draw only slightly more than 10,000.[sup][8][/sup][sup][27][/sup][/h3]
On 12 January 2009 the venue's owners announced plans for the stadium to anchor a shopping and entertainment complex. These plans, being developed by operator Citic Group, are projected to take three to five years to achieve. The stadium will also continue to function as a tourism attraction, while seeking sports and entertainment events.[sup][27][/sup]

The stadium hosted the 2009 Race of Champions.[sup][28][/sup] In July 2010, the stadium hosted a friendly football match between Premier League team Birmingham City and Chinese side Beijing Guoan as a part of Birmingham's pre-season trip to China, the homeland of the clubs owner Carson Yeung. Birmingham City recorded a 1-0 victory in the game.[sup][29][/sup]

In spite of the lack of significant events, the stadium appears to be quite profitable, drawing some 20,000 to 30,000 people a day at the price of a 50 yuan admission.[sup][30][/sup] Recently it has been used as a snow theme park.[sup][31][/sup] The venue costs approximately $9 million to maintain per year.[sup][8][/sup] Due to a lack of use, paint is already peeling in some areas.[sup][27][/sup]

On 1 November 2010 the IAAF announced that the 2015 World Championships in Athletics will take place at the Beijing National Stadium.[sup][32][/sup]

In August 2011, the Bird's Nest once again hosted the Supercoppa Italiana, the stadium's second in three years.

Arsenal FC and Manchester City FC will play each other in the inaugural ‘China Cup’, a one-off match in Beijing’s ‘Bird’s Nest’ Stadium on Friday, July 27 2012. [sup][33][/sup]
