The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Movie Thread

I loved this movie. Favorite film of 2008 and best film I've seen since Eternal Sunshine. I pretty much agree with what JRS said about the movie, exceptthat I think it was damn near perfect. It had a few flaws (which were trumped by the incredible qualities of the film) and if there is one complaint... I wi**** was LONGER! Amazing little story. Fincher/Roth FTW! I want this to win Best Picture, IDC if it's the next "Babel" or "Crash" thiswas so different from the current crap being spewed out by Hollywood.

went and saw it last night. absolutely amazing. favorite movie of '08. David Fincher really has an amazing vision. all of his movies look magnificent.

I saw it a week ago and was expecting it to be wack but it was pretty good.

It didnt feel too long for me and i enjoyed all of it. kinda hated the woman tho

YO!
It's nothing like the book. 20x better.

7 pounds is a nice little sweet story, but it doesn't give you that everlasting impact that Benjamin Button does. I mean the ending of 7 pounds was sad and it was a remarkable story, but Benjamin Button leaves you sitting there looking at life differently.

Yea it makes you really think when you leave. I really liked it.

It is a bit of a tear jerker. You just feel bad for him because he knows he has to leave. Then he comes back and he can't remember.
She has to take care of him until he dies in her arms.

just saw it last night, have been looking forward to it for a while now. i was a bit disappointed because other than benjamin's condition there was nothingvery interesting about the movie, i was hoping to see something i've never seen before (like in The Fall). the movie was moving of course and i teared upat a couple of parts.

I finally got to see the movie, and I'm completly blown away. First of all...there isn't one reason why Brad Pit shouldn't get the Oscar for bestactor. He completly ripped it in this movie. This is such a powerful movie, and it has so much meaning. There are movies that out come out of the theater andtalk about, but there's movies like this where you come out of the theater and think about it.

People will be talking about this movie decades from now, and Brad Pitts performance will be one to remember for years to come.

YO!

Ha.

It's like 4 pages printed off the internet.

It's a freaking short story.

Anthony must be taking crazy pills.

Pitt's performance wasn't great, at all. It was "good enough." I'm a Brad Pitt fan... I was hyped about the flick for months. But thiswas no stretch for him. The CGI and the story has far more to do with how good the movie is than the performances of any of the players (save for Taraji P.Henson, who clearly gives the best performance). This generation is so used to instant gratification and hails anything of even the slightest redeeming valueto be spectacular. I somewhat understand it with music given the lack of quality but films haven't deteriorated to point that every GOOD cinematic releaseshould sweep the Oscars.

Yeah thats why he saying the movie is 20x better. You think otherwise?

I saw it last night and I have one question. What was the relationship with the clock maker and the Buttons family?

The thing that made Pitt's performance so spectacular is the way he played Button as an old man. Yea the CGI made him look old, but he stillhad to act, walk, and live like he was 90 years old. I still stand by my opinion that Mickey Rourke should win best actor for the Wrestler, but I wouldn'tbe upset with Pitt winning.

I'm thinking about picking up the bootleg for this movie until the DVD releases.

i was wondering why they didnt explain this more.

There was no relation. The clock was just symbolism to Benjamin's life. The clock went backwards as Benjamin aged backwards.

I liked it better the first time, when it was called FORREST GUMP.

I know some of these have already been noted, but some of the glaring parallels with FG (which was much better of a film)
(also,spoilers ahead)

- Same writer for both films.
- The Jennnnay love interest. independent, sexually aggressive, travels around, before coming home to Forrest/Benjamin. shuns his love. Even the scene whereher boyfriend and friends are waiting in the car for her and Benjamin brings Daisy flowers, and she disses him. Same exact scene, some exact lines, as whenJenny is leaving on the hippy bus and her boyfriend and friends are waiting for her.
- Benjamin/Forreset's concern over whether his baby would be "just like me."
- Lieutenant Dan/Captain. Benjamin/Forrest's "boss" at war who becomes a father figure and teaches him how to be a man. Very similar in characterand appearance.
- obviously, the disabilities which hinder Forrest/Benjamin from being normal or accepted in society...
- ..as Benjamin/Forrest's mom points out over again "You're not like everyone else" as she defends her son from all the other people whodon't accept him into society. The mother figures are exactly the same, single strong moms..
- Stretching, but the moms both kick Forrest/Benjamin outside while she has "relations."
- Yes, there was a line about "Life, you never know what it's gonna throw at you."
- The scene where Forrest/Benjamin learns how to walk for the first time. Plus, Forrest/Benjamin's reliance on crutches/braces.
- The Southern backdrop.
- Almost same time period, framed by war and American pop culture events.
- Forrest/Benjamin fights in a war.
- Forrest/Benjamin's actions and interactions with people influence worldwide historical events, that he later catches on live television/news.
- Forrest/Benjamin grows up in identical-looking homes, that house a variety of different characters who shape his life.
- Forrest/Benjamin isoddly detached from all the people he inspires throughout his life, all the events going on. He acts slowly.. speaks deliberately, nevershows much emotion at all.

I was laughing at it being called a "book." Makes me question whether or not one actually read it. Beyond that though, just because it wasdeveloped into a full length feature film doesn't automatically qualify it as being better. I've stated, and will continue to do so if necessary, thatit was a good flick.

But whatever. I'm guessing once the DVD releases some of the creative license taken will be explained. I'd love to know why they felt it necessary tohave the film set in New Orleans as opposed to Baltimore. If only for the love story... then

And I don't consider portraying an elderly man to be all that difficult.
