Is Getting A Shapeup an "Unproffesional" Look?

it aint nothin wrong with that, but the avg dude around 40 definately aint rockin a line up like sean combs.
it just aint really in their priorities

i keep a dusty line... I'm not the clean cut type so i think it suits me more than havin it laser etched.

I don't think it is.
But once you hit 30-40 plus you should just clean it up, nothing razor sharp.

And lets be real nothing beats the confidence when you walk out the barber shop with a fresh cut and shape up.

No effin' way....you think it looks better to have a Manu baloney patch, or just keep it clean shaved? There is NOTHING unprofessional about having a bald head....
It's a better look to have hair because it has to be shaped and styled daily.

I don't see how it is unproffessional. When I go in the shop its old dudes in suits (40 & up) getting lined up on there lunch break. My barberspecifically gives the razor treatment so the shapeup is always crisp. But I live in PG county md so its a whole other world. I work in a corporate office butI never really paid attention but I will now. But I think most of the high up black dudes are bald when I think about it

A lot of the 40+ professional black men I know don't get their hairlines shaped up, but a lot of them (my dad included) brush their hair to the side orback. I don't know a young professional black man who doesn't keep a crisp line. Well, maybe the ones who shave their heads . . .

Has anyone heard this before? Yea I know it sounds silly but it is something to ponder.

Don't even worry about it. How is it "too black". I say eff what these "authority figures" say.

Bingo.

When you alter your natural hairline to have those icepick sideburns, dips, bars, and a tight front; then it looks unprofessional and "young".

If you just follow the natural lines of your hair and clean up a little here and there, it'll look fine.

pending my hairline don't do a harry houdini, I will get a crisp line up. I was never into those pencil thin sideburns/facial hair but I will for surekeep the tapered sides/back with the crisp edgeup for as long as my hair will hold out.

and this reminds me of that hairline thread. them token _s....who generally tend to be the ones who climb the ladder fastest/highest stay having the verysloppy or non existent hairlines

A round of applause....I couldn't have said it better myself.

Edit: But if you have the right credentials, I don't think anyone will really care. Professionalism is in the eye of the beholder, so whats unprofessionalto one person will be fine to another. The only aspect of professionalism that would affect you in a business setting would be the way you carried yourself andthe manner in which you present yourself to the public. I personally think that hair only shows a part of your personality and that's where it stops. Itdoesn't show whether your intelligent, dedicated, etc.

i dont think its unproffesional....but then again im 24. you have to realize that sharp lines didnt really become popular or focused on by barbers until thelate 80s! so it is fairly new trend to someone who is older...or just the rest of the population as a whole...

so its going to take about 10-20 more years for every black man to be walking around with a crisp shape up, because that is the popular and normal looknow...and thats how younger barbers are trained to cut

A clean lineup being young or unprofessional? Some of the most ridiculous %+++ I ever heard. Those are nothing but code words for "too black."

The only thing I can understand would be the sideburns.

I put it in quotes b/c it's not definitive or concrete.

I explained already that when you cut into your natural hairline to create sharp edges that you damn well don't have naturally, that's"young".

Sure it looks tighter, but after a certain point in life (depending on your line of work, it's usually somewhere in the mid-late 20's) that hairstyleisn't taken seriously b/c it's associated with the teens/young adults who usually get it.

I plan on getting shape-ups as long as my hairline can support it (early baldness seems to run in my family). I think that looking clean and cut is moreprofessional than looking messy and disheveled.

Just got home from the barbershop with a super crisp lineup

I agree it does project a "younger/unprofessional" look especially the razor thin sideburns and the really low caesars. Diddy's haircut looksprofessional to me in a way, it's not too short, squared sideburns, and hairline isn't super crisp. It's more of a natural look but cleaned up...

i dont think non "urban" people notice hairlines anyways. not indicating race, but you have to agree that people more associated with urban cultureget lineups so theyre the only ones that really care.
