🦉The Official Drake Thread6️⃣ - Scary Hours 3 11.17.23

I'm not sure if dropping out of the blue would help Kendrick. It took him ten months to go platinum with two successful singles.

I really don't know what kind of reaction people would have to that.

It's one thing to say he'd have buzz and blogs on fire, it's another to say people will definitely go out and spend money on it when they don't know what it is.

Kendrick has a pretty big base in the hip hop community not sure about the causal music fan though. We've already gotten 2 singles from him already though so I doubt a silent release is in the works.

ok so for instance if Kendrick drop album #2 out the blue would that help his sales versus him having a release date?
yeah, i think so. people are thirsty for that new album
I want to say its more of the demographic that he is rapping to. We are for the most part are up on social media and technology so doing silent releases is nothing groundbreaking. And the others will catch on with word of mouf

I just think it's certain artists like someone said up there...Drake covers a lotttt of crowds, he will always sell unless he really chooses not to

Kendrick isn't at THAT level...neither is Cole

Kendrick and Cole could do numbers with a surprise release but Drake is on another level. Cole is about to have his first platinum album so he belongs in the conversation sales wise.

shout out to Drizzy with that 80 score on metacritic. His highest so far :pimp:

Isn't this just an elaborate way of getting out of his cashmoney deal?

Y'all giving him too much credit.

Nah, he's still signed. It was a free mixtape and decided to sell it instead on iTunes at the last minute.

Dropping music with no promo ain't innovative or particularly smart.

Yeah, like 5-10 hip-hop/R-n-B artists can do it, sure. The rest of them would crash and burn. Drake will go gold no matter what. As will Ye, Jay, Beyoncé and a handful of others.

But let a Wiz Khalifa or Rick Ross drop an album with no big single...
Hasn't Ross done that with the past 2 albums?

Ross definitely didn't do this. His albums don't sell well and they all have singles, videos, release dates and so on. Last one flopped hard.

Drake is DEFINITELY saying woa or woe, however you wanna spell it. Like a few others said, it's short for whoadi.

White folks in the suburbs know about this. It's Drake, let's be real. Those album sales ain't come just black people.
Aint NO black folks buying any albums

Those are all preteens and suburban high school kid numbers. Never the less quite impressive for a surprise release. Damn, he is hot right now.

It Woe. Don't see how that's misinterpreted. I heard it's a Canadian thing. Apparently an NO thing as well.

People in Cleveland have been sayin woe for years, other than that ive only heard folks from miami & new orleans say it

:smh: :smh: :smh: :smh: :smh:

Trying to claim it as his slang? He's only been around Baby and Wayne for like six years now. I'm sure he's heard Baby and the rest of the squad say woa thousands of times :smh:

"Woe is my crew. It stands for “working on excellence.” It’s just my whole brand and my whole movement and my way of life for everyone. I want everyone to work on excellence. So, all my friends are my Woes and I feel anybody working on excellence in life is a Woe in life as well."
I mean I know what whoadie means and know whoa is short for it. Master P taught me that back in the 90s

Just thought he was saying wolves, and knew some people called him out for using "whoa"/"woe" and was like hmm maybe he didn't say that.

Guess he did. He's silly for claiming it's something he came up with.

Lol Drizzy wylin on that one. Dude's been saying that since I was in elementary school in the south.

IT IS. small group u can count them on 1 hand.  drake, beyonce, jay z.  thats it for urban music. everyone else needs to work promo of some sort to see those kinda numbers. those r the only people in urban music that got that much just off their name. lady gaga could probably do it if she wanted. nicki would do it but would probably only see 100k if that,

nobody at the top of hiphop right now like drake and jay. kanye marred his brand with that trash yeezus album. dudes are super hesitant now.

putting it on itunes means he got the samples cleared. getting samples cleared AND putting it up for sale? that counts as an album. he has grounds to drop off the contract. nobody knows if he did or not except wayne and baby and slim.
