Team USA Shin/Calf Skins worn by Durant & Gay

I understand about protecting yourself from injury but injury occur no matter what you do. If you're scare then don't play contact sport at all. Also getting hit in the shin is rarely occur in a basketball game unless you're playing against someone who's really clumsy or someone who's trying to dirty foul you. It's all about the looks imo. People nowadays worry about fashion basketball too much. People want to look fly even if it's a pick up game. It's all cool though no hate

what he said.

i mean, wear it if it helps your game.. like i used to not wear headbands til i tried one and had a good game.. nowadays i can't play without one, the sweat gets in my eyes.

but i just think people are going overboard with all the arm and leg sleeves. like i said.. pretty soon people will be balling in full on bodysuits..

Seems like there's a lot of misconception here.  The main purpose purpose of leg/arm sleeves is basically compression of muscle and has little to do with collision injuries.  Benefits of compression are improved blood circulation, reduced muscle fatigue and most important improves muscle recovery after activities.  Most of these benefits have been  documented in medical journals if you want to do further research.

That said, you probably wouldn't really need it for regular pick up games since it's rarely that serious.  But if you find it beneficial, go for it.  Last time I checked, a player is judged for their skills on the court not what they're wearing.

So, because I think people are stupid for worrying about what kind of accessories/equipment another man is wearing, that makes me mad. Okay.

I wear them because I have shin splints in both my legs. I hoop atleast 3 times a week for a few hours at a time on the pavement and that %@@+ will get to you.

As far as the padding goes, don't need it at all, but it does look mighty cool lol. So yes, I'd like to know where I could cop these.

There aren't too many times when you get kicked in the shins though. Maybe if you pull these up to your knees...

Really?

"Shin splints is a painful injury to and inflammation of the tibial and toe extensor muscles or their fasciae that is caused by repeated minimal traumas like running on a hard surface. It can often be cured by wearing effective calf supports or proper arch supports."
http://supports4less.com/g2/shin-splints/index.htm
http://www.advancedbrace.com/calfs.htm

"Taping up your shin with an Ace bandage or with a neoprene sleeve that fits over thelower leg may be comforting for shin splints, because it compresses the muscles and permits lessmuscle movement."
http://health.howstuffwor...ent-of-shin-splints3.htm

"The basic treatment for shin splints is no different to most other soft tissue injuries. Immediately following the onset of any shin pain, the R.I.C.E.R. regime should be applied. This involves Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, and Referral to an appropriate professional for an accurate diagnosis. It is critical that the R.I.C.E.R. regime be implemented for at least the first 48 to 72 hours. Doing this will give you the best possible chance of a complete and full recovery.

The next phase of treatment (after the first 48 to 72 hours) involves a number of physiotherapy techniques. The application of heat and massage is one of the most effective treatments for speeding up the healing process of the muscles and tendons."

theres a difference between actual sleeves to help shin splint and the ones the people in here are talking about. learn how to read and view pictures, the one the NBA players wear arent for curing anything, its just padding.

What did I miss?  The ones that Durant and Gay are wearing in the pic in the first post are basically compression leg sleeves with padding.  It is basically Nike version of these, http://www.mcdavidusa.com...52&DEPARTMENT_ID=730 .  Just because there's padding added to the sleeves does not take away from it being compression sleeves or alter its utilization and benefits in anyway.
