It's hard to criticize him because the material just wasn't there. The character wasn't likable and he wasn't dynamic or deep enough to be an interesting antihero or anything like that. DeNiro was far better in Silver Linings Playbook because the material gave him a real character.
Like I said before, same premise and cast but with a more confident script and direction and it would be a very good movie. Wasn't a black comedy, wasn't a satire, it was closest to an over the top mob movie, but that's been done so many times they didn't bring anything new to the table.
It's worth a Redbox/Netflix/download for sure... and if you're still curious or really like the cast, worth a matinee.
Another take on it is all these "teens" being scooped up by television ( esp Disney )
I feel like there's way more teen based shows then when I was growing up ( during the 90s )
That's true. Thanks to my son, I know that there's like 7 teen focused sitcoms on Disney channel alone. And I bet Disney keeps a right watch on what other projects their actors/actresses take on. Plus, they ALL seem to sing and act, so when they're not doing TV, they're cutting records for the Disney label.
" . . . what a long, strange trip its been . . . " The Grateful Dead, "Truckin'" (and a good summary of my life as an LA Clippers fan)
It's also about the nature of the business and how casting gets done. You know people, put in your dues, whatever, and then you get the parts. Agron can still play 17 as well.. so that didn't hurt. Maggie Grace was pushing it for sure, though.
I'm still hoping she gets a bigger part in a legit blockbuster or something. Let her play the main girl/woman and really get attention. It's not like she's a future Oscar winner who needs to be discovered or anything, I just like her
just watch after earth. I thought it was decent, nothing spectacular but also nothing terrible as well. What were people expecting, seriously? If you take the movie for what it is, average actors with an average director, you get an average movie.
I actually think the reverse. Fassbender as Bond with Hardy as the villain. Hardy is seems a little too rough & tumble 'round the edges while Fassbender is a little more elegant but able to throw down. Hardy is a great actor so maybe he could indeed pull it off.
The Hardy as Bond idea seems to have picked up steam within the last month of so. Interested. There was even a story that said Hardy would only play Bond if Christopher Nolan would direct ( @ that thought).
My favorite Bond films of all time in no particular order - Gold Finger, Casino Royale, From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice, Thunderball, & Skyfall.
Yet another action film from Jason Statham but this time with NT's favorite man crush James Franco... Man, they really made Kate Bosworth & Winona Ryder look rough... Interesting enough, the script was written by Sylvester Stallone with Chuck Logan who wrote the novel the movie is based on...
