Is anybody really a Russell Westbrook fan?

Son is a talented moron who can't seem to realize he's on the same team as the 2 time scoring champ. Trade him to jerz for dwill.

They should of traded him for Rondo or CP3, prior to the season starting. They won't win a ring with him on the team

I'm a fan and Durant will probably never let him get traded unless something absolutely unforgivable happens

Dude is straight OC, turns the ball over way too much, and he obviously doesn't realize he plays with one of the top 3 players in the game naw not a big fan

I think the guy can become a top 5 guard in this league. As of right now he needs to improve his decision making

He had a good game today. Hell the first play they ran a pick and roll and he hit his man perfectly for the assist. I saw him later in the game use his athleticism to get to the rim then pass to the open man for the jumper. I saw him defer to Durant throughout the game (rightfully so). And I also saw Durant make a stupid pass to half court that was stolen, then followed that with a cheap foul. A simple mistake but if Westbrook did that he would have been singled out and mocked.

I think at this point people are looking solely for the bad and ignoring any good. No one should deny Russ can be out of control at times and could/should be a better distributor than scorer.. His turnovers are also ridiculous, and ideally if he learns to slow down at times that will cut down on the TOs. But right now they're winning. When I see the problems occur this season, then I'll get concerned.

You didn't see when Ibaka tried to talk to Westbrook and he ran away?

He put up 18 in 25 mins tho.

I was surprised he went 4th overall in the draft and then all of a sudden he puts up some good numbers. He has the talent, I just want to see him figure out how to properly utilize it. The things I don't like about him is his attitude, his recklessness and his jump shot. All of which can be improved so I guess we'll see...

I am fan of him, dude has unreal athleticism out there at the court. He just needs time.

Anyhow offtopic I think OKC should just start Harden over Thabo. The offense just flows better with dude out there.

Sure, and I also saw tons of positive things. If you're going to just single out the bad and ignore everything else, is there anything to actually discuss with you?
Didn't turn the ball over a lot this game, he shot better than Durant (won't usually happen I know), but more importantly the Thunder won... again.. to go 5-0 this season.

what makes him a combo guard?

He's the primary ball-handler, he creates for teamates, he doesn't play off the ball....I'm confused to whats "combo" about D.Rose.  You are aware point guards are allowed to score right especially if they are the only player on their team that can create a shot.

Delonte West, Ben Gordon, Toney Douglas, Josh Selby, Jerryd Bayless, Mo Williams...those are combo guards.  Big difference.

He's the primary ball-handler by default on that team, he creates for teammates from driving and kicking out mostly (ala A.I), again by default (skillset, size, and team). Asking what's combo about Rose is like asking what's combo about Chauncy Billups?

Never at any point in Derrick Rose's basketball career - AAU/HS - College - Pro's....has he spent time at the off guard position. A combo guard doesn't spend 100% of their time at either guard spot. That would negate the term "combo guard". Chauncey Billups was a combo guard at Colorado and at times during his earlier journeyman days in the NBA.

How am I ignoring the positive when I just gave him props for scoring 18 in 25 mins?

But what other elite PG is doing things like running away from teamates and being a d-bag in general?  He just doesn't "get it".

If you think he only way he creates is driving and dishing then you aren't watching the games.  He runs the pick and rolls great.  He actually swings the ball to shooters.  He's an amazing player who is still unselfish.  Combo means you have some type of 2-guard in you.  He doesn't.

i like the guy, i like how when he hits big 3s he turns to the crowd and swings his arms like MAN IM THE #@!!!

i like dudes attitude

Well based on a simple police sketch/report, their reports would read very similarly. Of course Rose shooting the 3 would be the big difference. They are similar players. One is just the black swan and the other is the white swan.
I don't think Westbrook does much different than Rose except for the fact that he plays with KD. I believe if Westbrook had "his own team" he wouldn't get as much flack. But I understand the idea of him not knowing how to defer to the #1 option on the team.

But the Westbrook vs. Rose comparisons aren't THAT off base imo.

In terms of the Combo Guard argument, I think this is where the confusion is.

Some view him combo by his style.
Others say he isn't combo because he has never played the 2.

I don't know where I stand but I can understand both sides of the argument.

So let me ask you this, if Brewer and Korver get hurt and CJ Watson is put into the starting lineup and Rose is moved to the 2, would that make him a combo guard then?

It is amazing how much most of you are just repeating the same talking points the media has programmed you to believe with little regard for whether it is true or not.

What PG is leading the league in turnovers right now? DERON WILLIAMS. Westbrook isn't even leading this Thunder team in TOs.

And Russ is shooting 46% from the field, which would be higher than DERRICK ROSE (by literally a fraction of a fraction of a %), DERON WILLIAMS by 5%, BRANDON JENNINGS, and STEPHEN CURRY.

This team went from winning 23 games just over 3 seasons ago making the conference finals last yr with Westbrook at the helm.

Any hate coming from a Memphis fan is just hilarious considering the extent to which he flat ($*$ on Mike Conley every time they play, without fail.

It's amazing how KD has reached God like status where he is infallible and people act like he shoots 100% or something. Everybody is just like, "should pass to KD more, pass to KD" and neglect to ever point out that KD himself has off nights from the field, can't guard any 3s who shoot the 3 (Dorrell Wright, was in the upper 30%s in the Dallas series, and making just as many foolish decisions. All that said, that was the conference finals so they made it further than all but 3 teams in the league.

People just sit around and wait for Russ to give you something to complain about, but when he is playing well like he has been the whole season minus the first 4 games, they just make something up or reminisce about $@*$ to complain about.

BTW, Rose just pointed right at at a ref and said, "you always be calling some bull(&@& man!" but I'm sure he doesn't have an attitude or anger issues, just passion when he does it.

And JA and his rant can eat a **** too, dude was talking nonsense about his nostrils (lucky some of the angry black dudes from general didn't read that $@*$ ) and calling him a ******. It was all over the place and beyond ******ed.

Glad to see the hate on Russ has died down, considering the vast majority of it was undeserved and illogical.

Like **** dastardly's boy said, a lot of it is just repeating what the media feeds us. We all know that Westbrook is a MAIN reason why that team is on the rise.

And good point about how many of us assume that going to KD is ALWAYS the better option. He is human and he has his off days just like you said. But I would like to see him defer a little more in certain situations. There were times last season that a conspiracy theory dude could say that WB looked like he was point shaving.

But I enjoy watching him play but it isn't because of him playing the game the right way. It is more because of his explosiveness.

But I still stand by my point of him vs. Rose isn't that crazy of a discussion.

Seriously.
People seem to misconstrue Westbrook's alpha + intensity as a negative.

Westbrook is very, very appreciated.

Thats what I'm saying.  You shouldn't be saying that about a point guard.

But I knew this thread would come back. Dude had a rough start of the season and has cleaned up the turnovers.  I'm not sold on OKC being that great yet because they've had the easiest schedule so far.  So times it looks like Westbrook and KD are taking turns instead of just hooping.  We wil see.
