BROOKLYN NETS Off-Season Thread - Welcome KG P2 and Jet

I'll just quote what I said in the NBA season thread -

I personally think the Nets should've gave Avery more time. He was in a position to coach a completely new & revamped team & was forced in a position to win games with his best player playing through several injuries, including a bad sprain on his shooting wrist (Which is why I think some of the criticism he's been getting is unwarranted right now). While the Nets are in win now mode due to all the contracts they brought on this off season, I think Avery should've gotten more than 2 months to piece it all together :nerd:

If the losing kept up & the injuries weren't a problem, then I'd agree his time was up. Honestly though, as soon as DWill made those comments I had a feeling something was going to happen soon.

Im just curious to see what the next step is as far as coaching... I personally don't see Sloan or Phil Jackson coming in :nerd:

I know Brooks is happy though  Hopefully he can finally get more PT, especially since offense has been a problem throughout stretches of the game for us.

I give Avery a lot of credit for helping Blatche turn into a completely new player this season though.

Its 3 things IMO. Im not a BK fan per say, but I am a supporter.

1. D. Will's injuries
2. Lopez still playing like a girl
3. People should realize JJ is highly overrated

I don't think he's overrated, but I think the contract he got plays a big role in people judging his play. I think if he got a standard deal instead of that max deal, peoples views on him would be A LOT different. At the end of the day, nobody could expect him to say no to a deal like that  The only thing I expect from him is to play more consistent this season (& he's shown flashes on & off these last couple games). At this point in his career & with the team we have (him being the #2 option with other scorers), Im not expecting him to put up 30+ a game, but I think all Nets fans just expect more consistency.

This needed to be done. The players were obviously not responding to Avery. It's evident in their play.

When the Nets can't even compete with the roster they have now against teams like the Bucks, the Wolves, etc something's gotta change.

Definitely agree with you JB. I guess overpaid would be the more suitable term. I think any regular follower of the NBA realized JJ was not as good as he was made out to be shortly after playing for Atlanta. At this point, surely no one believes him to be anything more than a player who makes a great second option to an All-star.

Wife's bday was today too. :smh:

Kinda do feel bad now. I mean, the fact that players like Hump and D-Will have already been announced to both start Friday kinda makes this seem like the Players said a change was needed. Johnson got very heated when asked about D-Will sitting last night too.

And do not go by the tweets and comments from current players on the team. They are being told to say nothing but positives. (Especially Hump who seemed like he wanted to kill him when talking to reporters about his first DNP)

IMO Avery knew he losing the team, hence him getting short recently.

I'm going to the game tomorrow (it was planned before the firing  ) Anyone else going? :nerd:

The Net hate is really strong around the league. Avery, who all Net fans hate, has been getting major support from everyone not associated with the Nets. It's really odd considering Brown was fired 5 games into the season with 3 of his top 4 players injured and most people understood.

Avery is a bad coach in every way. His lack of accountability was disgusting - very selfish coach who never took blame for anything.

I expect the Nets to make a splash for the coaching position. So, at least a call to Phil wouldn't surprise me.

Didn't know there was a strong Nets hate around the league :nerd:.

I just want the team to do well and for Deron to start playing like himself again.

D. Will is a certified coach killer.

don't blame the coach because you're team is full of trash contracts attached to talent that will get you nowhere and you decided to play through "injury".

Crash is a reliable defender that truly does nothing exceptionally well offensively, Joe Johnson will give you a couple of "fancy" dribble moves only to take a contested jumper

and Brooke Lopez is a girl..plain and simple. Giving that man a max contract was easily one of the worst managerial decisions i've ever seen.

Not happening.

David Aldridge: Phil Jackson's longtime representative, Todd Musburger, tells me via text that Jackson "has no interest in the Nets' job at this time." Twitter @daldridgetnt

Phil is like a high maintenance girl from the Upper East Side. He'll only mess with championship ready teams. If Miami, Clippers, Chicago (With Rose) and Knicks (they never made the call)--he'd take the job.

Along with only coaching championship ready teams, he'll also have to have full control of everything that happens with the organization. Dude is at a point in his life where he wants to create a long standing winning legacy with a team. He wanted that with LA and management didn't want to check their egos.

With that being said, I HIGHLY doubt a guy like Phil Jackson would considering going to Brooklyn and coaching a team owned by Prokorov (control freak) and Jay-z (Not Phil's type).

Only reason why he considered NY earlier on was because he has sentimental value to the Knicks. He publicly admits, he had the best years of his life in NY playing with the Knicks. Even after 99' when there was a coaching vacancy, Phil preferred NY first. After all those years and being turned away, he STILL wanted to come to NY and the Dolan turned him away because he knew what Phil wanted--Total control. Dolan wasn't about that and said F U to Phil.

Long story short--Phil ain't coming to Brooklyn. You guys should go after Jeff Van Gundy though. Dude hates James Dolan and would love to stick it to him if he got the chance. Great defensive coach too.

^^ Bruh I said a call. And that's it. Just a call to Phil, not him taking the position.

I'm pretty sure they already made the call.

Nets press isn't going to reveal that right now. It'll only make that organization look even more pathetic. Hello Brooklyn
