Seems like people are doing these races now and it just doesnt make sense to me.  Its like trying to be a badass but not really being one.

I think a large mass of people are doing it for Facebook but, in any case, it is helping people get in shape and be active. A few of the people I know who've done the tough mudder are definitely the wanna be bad ***** who do nothing but talk about how they're training with former Marines every few nights, etc..

I just did the spartan race, and I don't think it's dumb.  It had nothing to do with being a "badass"(whatever that is).

I wanted to push the limits of my fitness.  I was able to get stronger, and build my endurance in training for the race.  I'm about that fit life.

lots of people who are stuck in offices all day that do these kinds of things...office life can get boring as **** so they pay up to $150 to torture themselves by crawling under fire, running through electrified wires, and get covered in mud.

at least thats why im doing it next year in Baltimore.

its def not stupid..

its not easy, esp if you dont train for it.

anything that keeps people active, and motivated. im all for it !

rather people in the world be in shape, than look like jaba the huts..

This.

It's not a race either OP. The goal is to work together with not just your team but everyone who was there to finish every obstacle on the course. Great experience.

Whenever stupid posts like this are made I like to look at the users join date. Funny how it's always from July-September of this year.

Doing these races has nothing to do with being "badass" It's about challenging yourself and having fun with a group of friends.

I refuse to reinforce OP's disdain for a modified marathon of endurance and agility.

Everyone has their own personal reasons for doing them.....just like 5ks and 10ks. Some people are running them for competition, others for personal fitness, some to support a good cause, and some just to have fun and be active/sociable.

Whatever YOUR reason is......do you man.

Yeah, pretty much the case. That's about all I can say about it.

I have no problem with people doing them.  Great for them.  However, I can't stand the ridiculous amounts of Facebook posts/pictures about it.

did the one in SoCal this past July.

Very dope experience. it gave me and my friends a goal to train for, instead of an arbitrary weight loss goal or a new PR on the bench. you meet some really cool people doing these things and everyone is helpful and encouraging. it's not a race.

great team building experience.

I think stuff like that is definitely growing in popularity, which is definitely a good thing.

(Sidebar) I'm doing the Zombie 5k run in October and Color Run in November.

I think they're stupid because I hate mud. But I run half marathons so to each his own

There are always some bad apples that have a different mentality that turns everything into "being cool"

will be attending the Malibu race Dec 2nd... cant wait!

I consider myself a pretty fit person, and hit the gym regularly.. but having something to look foward too and to train for is always extra motivation..

Have y'all heard of the Color Run? LOL

OP must be Oprah size..

How does participating in something that can help you get in shape, or support a good cause not make sense?
