***Official Political Discussion Thread***

Tom Perez is a progressive that has a strong pro labor and pro civil rights background.

He embodies nearly everything the Dems need to focus on.

But some progressives will be upset because Bernie's choice didn't get picked, for a damb position that doesn't even involve deciding the platform. But then again, Bernie's dumb *** like usual fan the fames.

The vilifying on both sides has been discouraging to see. Shame they couldn't toss the Bernie folks a bone, even in pretty much a ceremonial role, but I'm still glad to see Perez team up with Ellison at least.

Not sure how much it's gonna move the needle but one can only hope Perez works with him on bridging the huge party divide right now. Ellison had some good ideas on how to reconnect and re-energize the base at the grassroots level

the Democrats do sort of have 2 faces but they're not that misaligned.

look at the Republicans. they have 2 faces that are complete opposites. you have the redneck, racist, poor, angry, uneducated portion of the party, then you have the multiethnic, racist, rich, entitled, educated-on-paper portion of the party. they only share one thing... but somehow they unite every election.

@Colombia, good to hear you've been making some progress and the doctors are figuring some of it out. I would guess it's either a rare genetic thing or an abnormal growth that's interfering with some hormonal function, and it sounds like they're converging on a diagnosis. It could be mitochondrial too but the hormonal changes don't seem to fit. Any family history of this?

Also -- you must be severely deconditioned from inactivity over the years, so don't be discouraged if progress is slow right now.

Best of luck.
No history of serious disease in my close family other than esophageal cancer at 70+ years old. 3 of my close family members on my mom's side died from it. My grandmother on my dad's side died of cancer as well.

I wasn't exactly given great DNA, I know that

I was also born with a rare and complex congenital lung defect, which resulted in having half of my lung removed in surgery due to internal hemorrhaging ~4 years ago. The condition is called an intralobary pulmonary sequester. Mine was a pretty bad case because I had an extra artery branching off my aorta that was about as thick as the aorta itself. That artery branched off into smaller blood vessels in the bottom half of my right lung. The doctors found the defect when I started coughing up large bloodclots in class towards the end of my first year in nursing school. A CT scan with contrast fluid showed the defect and that the aorta-sized artery had a small tear that was bleeding into my lung. Because of the complex nature of the defect, I was advised to have the surgery done by arguably the top lung surgeon in the country who specialized in this type of lung defects. He was at an international conference at the time so I had to wait a few days for him to fly back in. The hospital gave me blood thickeners and had a team ready for emergency surgery in case the artery tear got bigger during that time. It was pretty scary but luckily the surgery went great and I have recovered 110%.

My lung capacity is now better than the average male of my age and a significant part of my right lung has regenerated itself.

Unfortunately the chronic disease I suffer from started shortly after said lung surgery, forcing me to drop out of nursing school. I had already missed too much class during my surgery recovery, couldn't do my internships, ...

The chronic disease started with minor lower leg pain that wouldn't go away, then the pain gradually became worse. For a while it was just intense chronic pain and I still worked out at the gym but my leg muscles gradually became weaker to the point that I could no longer ride my bicycle.

Not long after, the muscle weakness spread to my arms and subsequently my whole body.

that's a strange course. maybe it's autoimmune in nature, somehow triggered or uncovered by the surgery.

That case sounds so complex. You probably need the best doctor in the world period. Not just the best doctor in Belgium (unless the best doctor in Belgium also happens to be the best doctor in the world, lol)

Perez and Ellison pretty much have the same plan for the DNC.

The only the that separated them was a purity test.

Wish those who were smearing and launching right-wing type attacks at Ellison felt the same. The amount of times I saw dude get called a Hamas/ISIS supporter/anti-semite :smh:

Main reason I was hoping it'd be him was that it would maybe help out with party unification by bringing the Bern wing to the table, even symbolically. Not major change policy wise but it could've been a good look moving forward with the rebuilding of the party.

I fear that things are still gonna be somewhat fractured between the different factions in the party. Not with the leaders themselves since they've been preaching unity regardless, but with supporters.

If Dems unified the way the GOp does for elections, they'd probably be sweeping every branch each time around

man, Shep Smith is great, at least based on the clips I've seen. He stood up again for CNN and has a history of standing up against the typical Fox News crap.

Surely the Trump administration will swiftly remove this man for using a private email to conduct state business and lying about it under oath right?

http://okcfox.com/news/fox-25-inves...-pruitt-used-private-email-for-state-business
An investigation by Fox 25 in Oklahoma  has confirmed that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt used a private email account to conduct official business while he was the state’s attorney general, directly contradicting what he told the Senate during his confirmation hearing.
During his hearing, Pruitt was asked by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), “Have you ever conducted business using your personal email accounts, nonofficial Oklahoma Attorney General email accounts, text messages, instant messenger, voicemails, or any other medium?”

Pruitt responded, “I use only my official OAG [Office of the Attorney General] email address and government issued phone to conduct official business.”

But the Oklahoma attorney general’s office confirmed to Fox 25 that Pruitt used private email for state business after an Open Records Request revealed documents  where certain email addresses for Pruitt, not his official government account, were blacked out on official correspondence.

It’s not illegal for the Oklahoma attorney general to use private email accounts for government business, but those emails must be included in any records requests. Lying to the Senate under oath about the emails amounts to perjury. And it is illegal to use private email for official federal government business.

Pruitt was confirmed to lead the EPA despite the fact that the Center for Media and Democracy has been seeking the release of more than 2,500 pieces of email  correspondence between him or his staff and oil and gas companies while attorney general. The attorney general’s office has appealed a ruling that ordered it turn over the records that have already been withheld for more than two years.

Pruitt is not the only member of Trump’s cabinet to have been caught lying in Senate testimony. Betsy DeVos, who has been confirmed to lead the Education Department, told the Senate that she didn’t sit on the board  of her mother’s foundation when it made donations to the anti-gay groups Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council, despite legal forms that list her on the board during that period. Steven Mnuchin, who has been confirmed as Treasury Secretary, told the Senate that the bank he previously ran never “robo-signed,” or illegally signed documents without the proper review, despite reams of court documents  that say it did.

I see that Trumplethinskin got out ahead of a potential media press boycott of the correspondents dinner by announcing that he won't be attending at all

Probably wouldn't be able to handle a comedian roasting him to his face
