I agree and maybe I'm wrong about GRRM's current mindset, but it sure doesn't seem like he's too motivated to finish up the books.

That's the thing though - he's already told the HBO writers how it all ends in case he dies, so the pressure is off him to get the book done. Plus, its not like he needs it published for the money anymore. I just think he has very little motivation to actually sit down and write and I can't say I blame him.

I s always thought that was a lie or rouse especially the way the show is going. I think the only ones who truly know are his co writers

Probably but that doesnt mean they have to fully divulge the information. On top of the show is only going to rrun 7 seasons. There are still 3 books left to come out.
Have you read any of the novellas or the history of westeros books yet?
The detail in those alone prove his co writers can get the job done if need be.
the show has and is so different from the book at this point its hard to believe they will both have the same outcome. That or the show is just a huge detour to the ending either way the book will (obviously) be way more detailed and have different twist and turns.

Take season 2 and book 2 for example. Show. Arya and Tywin. Book. Arya and roose bolton.
Also where we got the hint some shady stuff was going to happen. With the boltons...and putting it together the same out come happens just a totallyb different path

I've been thinking about reading the books. Is it worth it if you already saw the show. My brother started reading the books from book 4. He started where the show left off basically.

I recommend it, but if I were you I would start from the beginning. Your bro made a mistake by starting at book 4. Dude is missing important details that are covered in the previous books and the show didn't cover.

You could try audio booking them too. I have GoT on audible and I listened to it at work and the gym at 1.5x speed. Got through it in no time.
