Mad Men Season Six Thread - Episode Thirteen - Season Finale - "In Care Of"

The two hour premiere gives you a lot to digest, but I really liked what they gave us. I don't think this show is particularly suited for a big "movie" event, but oh well.

The Betty stuff got a bit dull, but that's to be expected.  Her "joke" to her husband about raping Sally's friend was so bizarre

Best jokes of the night... Peggy's conversation with the pastor (or reverend I forget) and "How could you have written it down that fast?"

or Don asking Stan "That make you think of suicide?" and Stan enthusiastically replying "Of course, that's what's so great about it".

Roger's mother dying gave us that great funeral and went well with his psychoanalysis and continued search for meaning in his life (after his LSD trip). I'm really looking forward to where that goes. And him breaking down when his shoe shine guy died was a nice touch.

Peggy is absolutely crushing it as the female Don. Tearing down her junior copywriters for their lazy work and then coming through in the clutch with a new idea. I also liked her and Stan talking on the phone and still be friends.

At first I thought Don was just becoming more "normal" and old with his new doctor friend, but the reveal of the affair with the guy's wife (Linda Cardellini) was a great move. I figured Don went back to his old ways, but they did a great job of making you forget about it until the gut check at the end. Don admitted he didn't want to keep doing it, but he knows how difficult that can be.

Big thematic moments this episode. Don not realizing his big realization about Hawaii, as shown in his pitch, was relating to death, heaven, and/or suicide. The happiness and comfort he felt was something more than he realized. Then the doctor brought it back around when he compared their two jobs... "You get paid to think about things they don't want to think about... People will do anything to alleviate their anxiety". We know how Don alleviates his anxiety, but I don't think he's realized how much he takes on in his job. Thinking about the things others don't talk about or realize, and how that defines him in his own life.

Don is a sex addict, plain and simple. Watching Don's self destructive behavior is like watching an episode of Intervention. As hard as he tries to break the cycle of addiction he can't. He tries to do better but when he fails he hates himself.

^still i want to be Don when I grow up.

That episode was terrible though, wortst episode in all the seasons by far

So glad this show is back, great first episode with Death being the main theme...

Also, can someone tell me what the dude from Hawaii's lighter said? I could make out most of it but the last few lines.

Peggy is definitely putting in work, interested in seeing her and Don's first interaction this season.

Don back to his old ways smh, but I guess that's just who he is.. looks like it's going to be a dark season judging by this episode alone, interested to see it unfold.

I think his lighter just said his name and rank.

And Roger being in analysis is going to provide countless one liners and jokes.

Ok, so I guess I was completely wrong in thinking it said 'do unto others...'

Thinking back to when I was watching it.. I read most of it, but what does the last word say? In life we often have to do things that are not our... bag??! I remember being confused as hell, I guess bad would kind of make sense? but not really. I need to know, it seems important because Don kept trying to get rid of it and it kept finding it's way back to him til he finally told Dawn to get it back to the dude.

I'll double check and watch it again, but that's just what I saw on Tumblr.

another review confirmed, that's what the other private's lighter said. Using "bag" like that is an idiom, certainly an older one a young guy in the 60s might pick. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/is+bag

I don't think Don will die. I think he may have heart attack though or like a mental breakdown
