to dudes debating this is what I say, with VZWedge and ATT next for dudes with 5 and 5s who were going to trade them in do this:

Sell your 5 or 5s on Ebay/Craigslist (you should get anywhere form 250-450) apply that to the full retail price of the iphone you want, so say you want the iphone 6 in a 64gb thats 749, and you sold your iphone 5S for 300, the remaining balance would be 450, pay that 450 out of pocket and enjoy having a cheaper monthly bill the end. When you want the next iphone just sell your phone instead of having to turn it in, and you end up making more than trade ins and just pay the difference out of pocket. You're essentially gonna end up paying 50-150 more than the contract price, but you get to have a cheaper bill every month. IMO its a fair trade off especially since we would be blowing that extra money spent on a phone on something dumb like fast food or alcohol. Its literally the difference of skipping fast food for a month/ not buying 3-4 bottles out the year.

yes I pay $60 instead of $50 to have the privilege of paying $400 instead of $800 and getting a new phone without paying ETF or early upgrade fee.

What a terrible scam.
People don't realize that insurance is included in those $10.....which is huge
True.  But the insurance is terrible.

You have to pay a $175 deductible for a refurbished iPhone.  And you have to wait for it to be shipped to you.

It's all preference really, but I've found that Applecare is golden.  $99 up front for 2 years of coverage plus $79 per replacement (up to 2 in 24 months at that price).  And you can get a replacement the same day.  With the Jump! insurance you're paying $120 a year.

But you also need to have at least half of the full cost of the phone paid off.  And if not, you're coming out of pocket to cover the difference, right?

So you're paying $10 extra per month to have the privilege of paying at least half of the full price cost of a device whenever you want to upgrade.

But hey, you can upgrade whenever, right?

Fact remains that these early upgrade programs are pure moneymakers for carriers, regardless of your corporate discount (which a lot of folks have, myself included).

Never implied that it was a scam.  Just that you're leaving $$ on the table by paying monthly for the opportunity to PAY to upgrade.  It isn't as simple as "hey, I can upgrade whenever".  There are strings attached.

Need to see what Tmobile wants for the down payments already.

for new customers :nerd: :nerd: if so t-mo mightve just won

^^ you're constantly paying to "rent" that phone tho..

You could say that, BUT if you plan to buy a new phone every year (new iPhone) all the plan does is allow you to do so. If you plan to keep the phone THATS when the fine print will kill ya

What if you want to cancel it though? That's the kicker. Anyone know how that works?

Let's say I break my phone. Can I walk into Apple, purchase Applecare on the spot after my phone is already broken, wait a couple of days and use Applecare to get a new phone at $79?

That's a damb near 20% interest rate

Bill Me Later (now PayPal credit) has a 6 month no interest no payments if the whole balance is paid within the 6 months.
still debating which way to trade in my 5 for the gift card, Apple is only offering $150 but AT&T is offering $200

I just despise doing any and all business with AT&T in person, they're awful and I fear they'd try to remove my grandfathered unlimited data on the low
thats the only reason i'm doing the pre-order through apple. I need my unlimited plan.

No such thing as a "free" phone homie.  So say you're paying average $32 a month for this now phone.

Trade it in, you've spent ~$384 on that phone... to rent for a year

BUT, buying the new phone would cost 800

Let's say you sold your phone for 400 ( normal selling price) and bought the new one out right for 800. You've spent 400

You "rent" phone for 400 and rent the next one for 400, you've spent 800

If you plan in buying a new phone every year, which most do now, it's really no difference. I personally wouldn't join because I hate contracts for everything

Nah, you have to add AppleCare within 30 days of activating your phone. And they have to physically inspect it or run a diagnostics test on it to make sure it's in good working condition if you didn't add AppleCare when buying the phone.

I wish it was that easy.

ATT cant do anything with your plan as long as youre eligible for an upgrade.

Decided not to go with the 6+ ill get the 6S+ but im content for now

How has the preorder process worked in the past do you have to pay the full amount down on the phone right there or can you do the option to pay at pickup? Reason being is I have a 64GB IPhone 5 I want to just trade in towards the final contract price. Gonna call apple now.. I  just want to know about the other carriers because these idiots seem to not want to tell anyone anything. If anything I will just walk into the store and cop as I have done for every iPhone release since day 1. Im not gonna lie I miss working in the stores I would have mine that morning no hassle no lines nothing lol. Miami is gonna be zoo that day I might just go up to boca to cop.

Not really sure the appeal over paying ~$30 a month for 24 months. You're paying full price for the phone. Why not just get on a 2 year contract and save that $600? Plus, how often are you guys jumping to other carriers?

Besides, if I renew with Sprint, I can always just jump ship and have another company (Tmobile) pay my ETF's......right?

not suppose to but they most definitely will try IN PERSON .. def try to strong arm you on coming off it.

Supposedly theyre not allowing grandfathered plans anymore (unlimited)

But in reality its not even a big deal. I got unlimited everything, and the most data ive ever used once was 10GB any other month its in the 6-8 range.

10GB plan on AT&T runs you $140 before taxes, my unlimited bill is $130 .. I mean cmon man you winning because most people dont even come close to touching 10GB especially when people use wifi to save battery life

But yes preordering thru apple is sounding like the best route to take to keep the unlimited plan

You're not going to lose your unlimited plan unless you change it. All you're doing is upgrading to a new device so theres no changes in your plan.
