CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan believes he could have beaten LeBron James in a game of one-on-one when he was in his prime.

He's not sure about Kobe Bryant.

In a video promoting the "NBA 2K14" video game that is being released Tuesday, Jordan said there's a long list of players he would've liked to have played one-on-one -- Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Julius Erving, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Bryant and James, who is on the cover of this year's game.

"I don't think I would lose," Jordan says in the video, before smiling and adding, "other than to Kobe Bryant, because he steals all of my moves."

SportsNation: LeBron vs. Jordan

Michael Jordan thinks he could beat LeBron James in a one-on-one matchup in his prime. Do you agree? Vote!

Jordan also said the game was much more physical when he played than it is today.

"You go in with the understanding of 'I'm going to get hit. I'm going to pay the price,'" he said. "But that's part of the game. I'm not going to be afraid to go inside. Those are the types of things that these kids don't even have a clue of how we had to grow up and how we had to play."

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion and considered by many the greatest player ever, said he only talked trash to his friends.

"I didn't talk trash to people I didn't know," he said.

Jordan has had a sponsorship deal with 2K Sports since 2011, when he first appeared on the cover of the popular game.

The 50-year-old Jordan, who was a five-time league MVP, also shared the cover in 2012 with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

This year will be the first time on the cover for James, a four-time league MVP who has led the Miami Heat to back-to-back NBA championships.

I'm tired of the I played in a more physical era. How the H wouldn't that benefit James more than anyone.

People would actually be able to defend him.

And he wouldn't have to worry about petty offensive fouls as he goes through whatever he pleases. He'd be hitting the paint that much harder. Not many would want to stand in the way. His defense on the other hand, well he's the only beast of his kind so he would benefit even more from that as well.

It would benefit James on the defensive end.

But like Jordan said, he's use to playing through contact so it's nothing new. Lebron on the other hand would struggle to score against a guy who is hand checking him and playing him physical.

LeBron doesn't have to worry about offensive fouls now anyways because he rarely gets called for them when he barrels his way to the paint.

Jordan Never had a Karl Malone sized human being with Scottie Pippen defense on him. Way different

But we're assuming Lebron would have walked into that type of league and adapted to the way it was played. Just like Jordan would be a different player if he walked into and adapted to league that Lebron did. There's no reason to think either of them wouldn't be capable.

LeBron is an amazing talent, and so is Kobe. At the end, LeBron is probably going to be the GOAT, however when it comes to mental toughness and "will" to win MJ and Kobe are on a whole 'nother level.

And never faced anything close to the sophistication of today's defense.

He's paranoid (more and more) and it is amusing.

Wait a minute. Wouldn't the GOAT have that mental toughness and will. The last part in a way negates what you initially said.

I think Lebron could definitely survive a more physical NBA, he's physically equipped to do so. The biggest thing that would change would be his mentality. As good as he is now, he cries too much when he has contact on his way to the rim, albeit minimal and not affecting him. Before players would eat contact like nothing. He would def get challenged at the rim more. He would still finish but he would get stopped. Imaging a prime David Robinson, Shaq, or Dream meeting him at the rim. That would be a sight to see. MJ with that back handed compliment about Kobe being able to beat him because he steals all his moves

. It's a **** move, but it's also true.

Despite what he said, he would for sure beat Kobe and struggle with Lebron.

It's not because Bron is/was better than Kobe in his prime, it's strictly from a match-up perspective in my eyes.
With that said, Lebron did get shi**ed on by JET Terry :pimp: he struggles with smaller dudes that have legit jumpers in their arsenal.

What exactly is more sophisticated? I seriously need someone to expound on that.

I agree about the matchup issue, but I think the difference in muscle weight is the bigger issue as opposed to height. MJ had no problems with giving it to guys bigger than him. He actually sought out to embarrass them.

Nah because any time he felt that physicality he'd flop and chuck the ball towards the rim for an And-1 then be baffled when play didn't halt for a foul.
