Going to NYC in July, need some advice!

That's decent.  You've got the subway at 96th but be prepared because it's gonna be hotter than a ************ (that's in all caps) in late July.  Don't expect a lot going on around where you're staying though, you're gonna have to venture out of that neighborhood for just about everything but it's a good area to rest.  If you wanna keep your costs down you can get to anywhere from there on the subway, it'll just take a while and like I said, if you're a sweater, good luck.

I guess people have different definitions of "nippy"

Also, a lot of recommendations depend on what you're into.  I think Ricardo Malta's suggestions are pretty good.  You said you're going with your wife so that's a factor too.

Someone said the halal carts suck?  Yeah, there are a ton of them and a bunch are below average, 53th & 6th is hyped and the lines are out of control but it's consistently good and worth getting.  What type of food are you looking for?  You can get a really good meal for just about any type of food, it just depends on budget and what you have in mind.

As a Staten Islander I say take the Staten Island ferry for the views of the Statue of Liberty and skyline.

Budget? im thinking of having around $5k spending money, obviously dont have to spend all but just in case

posting to see suggestions and if I'm still interested in going in a few months

Do all the touristy stuff for sure. It's worth it for a first timer. I take everything for granted.

-Statue of Liberty

-Empire State

-Top of the rock to see the entire Manhattan skyline, do this at sunset/night since you're going with your wife

-Central Park: Place is huge, not even kidding. Lots of stuff going on here in the summer, plays, shows, movies, etc etc. It's mad tranquil, explore it. Really a dichotomy right within the city. Nice place to go with the wife once again, sunset, weather much milder and nice views of the skyline. Also can do some boating at central park with the wifey, which is pretty fun, especially if you never rowed before.

-Promenade in Brooklyn: A park with probably the best view of the downtown skyline like the WTC etc. Go to the WTC too, it's called the Freedom tower now. Battery Park near there I believe too and has a chill atmosphere just to sit and look at the skyline. The promenade in Brooklyn is a good spot at night once again. Everything at night is just better, especially with the nasty weather in NYC during the summer and the amount of people (this is just me)

-Times Square, once again I like it at night, bright as hell haha

-West 4th/Soho/St Marks/Village Downtown area: For shopping, clubs, and just seeing stuff haha

-Chinatown: Not really sure for what, for cheap chinese food, and a different part of the city

-Shake Shack for burgers and overall for food Yelp isn't a bad guide to see what you like. There's a lot of fancy restaurants here if that's what you want with your wife, just look up top restaurants in the city. Le Bernardin a popular/famous one. Also, it's corny but search up on google, buzzfeed places to eat in NYC, and they have their lists of things to try and for the most part the things I've tried on their lists were usually on point, so had to agree with them. Try the 53rd and 6th cart also.

-Bryant Park area just to chill near Times Square

- Take a ferry to go to Brooklyn dumbo area and you can see the skyline in a different way once again. Walk through the Brooklyn Bridge Nice restaurants in this area too.

- So many museums if that's your thing. I could never though, always bored me haha.

- I'm blanking now, and forgot stuff uptown for now, but if I remember stuff I'll let you know since you're living uptown. Venture downtown though, there's a lot down there.

Budget? im thinking of having around $5k spending money, obviously dont have to spend all but just in case

- well like someone said on here before go pop tags in soho.

- If you're in the Upper East side, hit up my fav ramen spot - Naruto Ramen (if you're into that)

- Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding>>>>>

- Hit up La Marina in the Heights

Ima check some of the bars mentioned on the other page tonight. Minus whale try something aside from my usual spots.

I went to NYC in october.

Stayed in a studio in Queens.

Area is cool, i was staying two minutes away from a subway station.

it took me 15 minutes and i was in time square :smokin

Central park is dope. You can negociate and rent a bike for cheap.

a couple of museum there too, you can also go to the zoo in central park.

i wish i stayed longer to do more stuff (only 1 weekend).

Next time, I'll go more around soho and chelsea (apparently there is a path where you can walk and it's pretty dope, i've been told).

I'm thinking of going to philly to catch the SF giants, what's the best way to get from NYC to Philly?

^take the Chinatown bus. $20 round trip, and they run on the hour 6am-11pm with no reservation needed.
