Yes, the Show Opportunity coming at that particular time was a God-Send for him, because he was in Financial Straights... but it was Not the REASON why he did the show.
That's like saying if he was financially cool, he woulda never been interested in being the Lead Role on a TV Show that would be debuted in Primetime on one of the Biggest TV Networks out.

it's funny how that happens, but it is an inevitable process; can't really expect that the youngins would have the same references for a guy whose career has spanned multiple decades (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s!!!)...
speaking of shared reference points #professionalsegue, while this isn't a technically a "never knew that" type of thing I recommend folks getting acquainted with this fella Joseph Campbell, he talks about the myths & story tropes that seem to be common to human civlizations, across time & cultures, it is really interesting stuff, there is a multi-part interview type series that's worth finding & checking out wherein he talks at some length about "the power of myth" awesome for anyone interested in the art of storytelling/history:
