The Lakers are doing what they need to do in all honestly. Took awhile for me to digest it all but they did what they were suppose to do.

This free agency went like it was suppose to. All the Lakers did was spend at a minimum and keep themselves flexible. And they will continue to do so until a superstar is available to sign and then that's when they will go after that person (see: Carmelo).
They had the space, he is a superstar, they went after him. They miss on him, ok cool. Wait for the next guy to come along.

Some may hate the Nick Young contract. But it's really a small contract when you look at it. Money is spread out small across 4 years. Manageable. He really took a paycut. Let's face it he can score and create his shot with the best of em. Every team needs that. Without him the team would only have Kobe to create so it's cool for us. Great locker room guy, city loves him so it's whatever.

I was a little frustrated because the FO didn't go after some of the decent priced 2nd tier players (Bledsoe, IT, Lance). But I figured in their minds if they aren't directly contributing to a title run there's no reason to spend the money on them.

Although I believe that superstars actually want to come to a team that already has players and not the other way around, I can understand this plan.

It seems that the Lakers FO hasn't wavered of this plan for the last couple of years (outside of the infamous Kobe contract). So if they keep their focus and not get rushed into making a move because of us unruly impatient Lakers fans. It could work.

But this does not include tanking. You guys need to get over it. This organization will never intentionally tank. They just won't. Whether wrong or right. No matter what anybody else believes this is what they stand by. So deal with it, this is the team you choose to root for. They will put out the best product on the court that falls into their plans.

Only problem is if we miss out on superstar after superstar, year after year we could be in the dark ages for a loooong time. Especially when that superstar will be tempted to most likely leave 30 mil extra on the table to come here. And that's not even including how much Uncle Sam will shred up in taxes. So ionno boys it might be a long road back to the top.

Our next best shot at a free agent superstar pick up is the superstar who either grew up in LA/SoCal or has an extreme affinity for everything Lakers when growing up.
So whoever that is we have a high chance of getting.

Only person I can think of is Love. But he will be traded away before we get a chance at him. And he makes himself sound like more of a NorCal dude as opposed to Hollywood.
That's pretty much how I see it as well. Go for the big names, and pass on the 2nd tiers. It's just too risky, with the Clippers being the dominant force in LA at the moment, along with out struggle, why would folks want to come here? We'd really have to make some moves and hope our young folks develop, if we're going after Durant or Westbrook

Quality post. The thing is, what SUPERSTAR are you talking about? In 3-5 years, guys are gonna get older. LBJ today is not the LBJ 2 or 3 years from now.

How can you even support management? If there intentions were to make a run at LBJ or Melo, why sign Kobe to that contract? More so, having the cap doesn‘t mean you are gonna be able to court a super star.

The sole issue is that Kobe is on the last stages of his career, and management is not used to it. If pleasing fans was all LA cared about, then this is a terrible way, as some have said it, for Kobe to go out.

If they are committed to rebuilding, why sign Kobe to that deal? Pretty obvious. LA was never committed to winning when they double downed in Nash, Howard, and most of all, inking Bryant for two more years.

Well just some superstars off the top of my head that are young with room to grow Westbrook, Durant, AD, but that's it. I agree it's gonna be a lot harder to lure free agents than most people let on.

All people seem to know is cap space, picks, & youth and just aimlessly repeat that like we are an MLB team with a successful farm system :smh:

And at the time throwing your all your chips into Nash, D12, Kobe, Pau was genius. Just didn't work.
The Kobe contract is when they didn't commit to winning because they knew at that point they couldn't ...don't have more than 2 stars on your team you ain't winning nothing. Point blank. Pretty simple.

I have a love/hate relationship with FO
The difference between me and a lot of others is I don't command perfection I just command the continuing of constantly doing anything to win. There's a difference.

Does Jim & Mitch do dumb things at times?? Oh hell yes!!
But there's honestly no comparison to our FO with others. There's teams that have straight buffoons running their teams and only care about the money.

Are you guys serious with these Nick Young talks!?

When y'all decide to hate a guy y'all hate him lol. Are you guys not watching this inflated market and the deals these dudes are getting?!
You see what M33ks is getting paid?! Freakin Channing Frye is in the double digits!!

You guys sound foolish!
In a league where being able to legit create your own shot is at a premium and you guys are talkin about 2 year deals smh
The runner up 6th man at that

I think Nick Young is as useless as the next man but I'm not delusional lol

agreed, guy is full of himself, not committed to winning. plenty of self ego inflated guys like him. just collects the money, lives the life, but thats it. i actually dislike is persona. haha

I agree. I was just too skeptical at D12 becoming that guy. I just dont understand how you can go 0-9 in preseason or whatever and lose with two talented bigs. D12 bailed out, and we were stuck with no leadership at the helm. I suppose you can say, I am taking a swipe at the coaching peeps they brought in.

I'm liking Randle's offense so far. Hopefully he develops a little mid-range jumper eventually.

Randle trying to do to much the last 2 times he's had the ball :smh:

Dude thinks he's Charles Barkley.

Watching this game and seeing the coaches for both teams.

Phil's disciples:

Mark "Mad Dog" Madsen coaching Lakers summer pro league team.
Steve Kerr new Warriors coach and Luke Walton an assistant coach.

Jordan Clarkson might be Mitch's 2nd round steal. Just like how Jerry West's 2nd round steal back in the 90's was Nick Van Exel.

I guess we'll do predictions officially when the season thread gets underway, I'm downgrading my total to 32 wins.

I jumped out of my seat after that Clarkson tip in, not going to lie

That game was the most excited I've been for a Laker game in a while.

Randle needs to work on his ball handling if he wants to be playing like a point foward

I did not see much of his back to the basket game today

Clarkson though :smokin

Grant Hill compared Randle's ball handling to Anthony Mason's game.

Which I sort of see. But on the other hand now I see why Calipari didn't let him dribble and play point forward last year in Kentucky.

A stop gap move would have been giving him a 2 year deal, they gave him 4 years with a player option in year 4. Doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

Yup and nobody wanted him too

Right now its all about selling tickets for jim and the gang.

Id choke the life out of each and every one of the people who put them stay **** young signs up. We have some really clueless fans man. They probably think the guy is a young rookie who just started playing a break out star but the low bball iq gump is almost 30.

Jordan farmar > swaggy vagina

Didnt farmar sign for 2 million a year?

Man **** management for not taking care of farmar

I mean atleast tell him if you hang on we got you

At this point with the coaching situation still not decided.

I wouldn't mind at all if the Lakers went with Mark Jackson instead over Byron Scott.

So is Nash even going to attempt to play this season? We'll have 4 PGs on the roster when the season starts probably. Unless they're making Lin the backup 2.

Clarkson is on the team no doubt. Not just cause of tonight but hes been solid for 3 games. His game just looks like it translates to the NBA
I like what I see from Randle. Really quick, power moves. And this is just off of not playing 5 on 5 in months. I think he'll be even better once he gets the rust off and conditioning up. He needs to chill with the ball handling tho lol
