NES game cover art appreciation thread

All of these franchises had extremely successful toy lines that were their bread and butter. I'm not sure, but they may have had restrictive licencing agreements with the manufacturers of their toys. Its also likely that they viewed home video gaming as a fad and at the time there was more money in plastic figurines.

I cant speak for the other franchises, but I know for a fact that MOTU was way too comfortable with their position in the 80's and were very slow to adapt to a changing market. They had offers for a MOTU movie years prior to putting one in production and by the time they did, it was already too late and people had lost interest.

Makes alot of sense. There's so much behind the scenes stuff before a product has the green light. It sucks these franchises and Nintendo didn't come together, they both would have benefited while in their peak of popularity.....what could've been :frown:

MOTU puzzles me though, they released a game for Coleco Vision and Atari. Nintendo could have extended their franchise life.

As my man used to call it back in the day, "Tecmo Bowl Wrestling" had some good music.

Oh nevermind, this is about cover art

Want to cover music?

Rad Racer and the ability to change the tunes while driving was ahead of its time.

The music to Double Dragon or Double Dragon 2 was solid.

Music that changed on the situation was much appreciated, even in RBI baseball when runners were on or a popfly, etc. :smokin

I beat the OG Final Fantasy game too. I bought my daughter the remake on her PSP. She's more into Kingdom Hearts though.

Mario 2 was cool, but the ending was >D After I beat it, it made me never want to play it again. Mario Wii was pretty ill speaking of Mario games and I destroyed that one too. I sometimes forget how much of a gamer I used to be because I don't really rock with the new games too much. I'm stuck in an era where Street Fighter II, Tekken 3 and Metal Gear Solid were the epitome of video games.

My favorite game after that era was Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox. Such a well done game and I beat it over and over trying to unlock different things. That and Prince of Persia on the Xbox were :nthat:

Off the subject for a minute, if y'all didn't know about this game years later, then y'all missed out. One of the funnest games ever created.

Pocket Fighter was one of the most fun fighters ive ever played. I rented it for PS1 in my freshman year of high school. Damn shame it never got a sequel. This basically was the spawn of Puzzle Fighter

Imagine nearing the end of a game you've never beat, awesome flawless play through during the first half, nailed the obligatory "one touch and die car or motorcycle stage" and then the game go "code" and not playable anymore :smh:

Part of the frustration

My main gripe with the NES was having to blow on the catridges to get them to work. I can't tell you how many times i damn near went unconscious trying to get a game to actually boot us and play

Since we're talking music, nothing compared to hearing recorded voice on NES. I can remember hearing "JELACO" when the logo flashed across the title screen.

I also remember hearing "I'm baaad" when a level was completed on Bad Dudes.

Voice quality was horrible, but so rare to hear back then.

Bruh, it was like the future. A jaw dropper during the time lol. Man have things changed

The Tecmo Superbowl dude yelling "TOUCHDOWN" in monotone robot voice is prob my fav. I still yell this while watching football games to this day

Did anyone ever try to put the cartridge in where it use to barely clip the edge as you pushed it down into the Nintendo? That was always money for me as well.

my favorite was voice was "Double Dribble!"
Yes, yes, and yes! I remember all of these. My wife and I still yell out the Don Flammingo "hit me-hit me" sound gibberish at random times

This is another thing these younger guys need to learn.

Back then there were no save point, no memory cards, no way to continue past the given amount. You play for the 45mins-hour and if you lose, that's it, it's over, try again FROM THE BEGINNING. Talk about stressful situations........ Imagine playing against the most broken computer AI you can imagine. Nowadays people would ask for a patch for ninja gaiden :smh:

And **** rc pro am. What am I supposed to do when the AI car is just blazing by me on a straight away ??? What?!?!? What!!!?!?

Nothing was more infuriating as getting to the underwater stage in Ninja Turtles only to die and have to restart from the beginning. Or driving around in the Turtle Van having to diffuse bombs.

At least TMNT had a cheat code to go straight to the last level

You know how mad that just made me?? After all these years I never knew this. Countless hours lost playing this game, many controllers thrown and I was told by so many people that this was a game that had no codes. I had to google this make to sure this was true, and there is a page full of codes. No internet back then and video power was monthly so I guess it was par for the course...

I used to get my parents to take me to the bowling alley every weekend. Not to bowl, but because they had a Simpsons arcade machine!

Speaking of arcades...

I still remember this dude getting layed out and when his face hit the floor son was missing teeth :smh:

I don't know how it went in other parts, but in Queens some VHS rental stores used to have arcades in them and it was either, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, or this other one called Pit Fighter not sure ,but I think it was probably SF but could have been MK... but anyway how dudes used to say they had next was put their quarter on the top base board or whatever it was called and two dudes were playing and one of them moved the machine with how hard he was playing and somehow the machine might have tilted and the quarters came off the top and their was an argument on how the line up of who had next went.

I was the little kid their with the older bigger dudes so I couldn't put my money up so I had to call next and they would all look down at me and I would ask who had next last. So these 3-4 dudes had their quarters up their and they couldn't agree on what order or whatever and two of them started getting in each other's faces and one threw a one hitter quitter and dude who got hit folded up and hit the ground face first and knocked some teeth out.

 They let me go next after that because the other dudes was on some why you had to do that steez feeling sorry or whatever so they was like go ahead shorty you go next.

Also, like maybe a week or so after the dude that layed the other guy out got jumped by a couple of the dudes who lost his teeth and they put the beats on him and sliced up back of his neck and face :x that was the last I heard or seen of either two of them too.
