Police Kill Unarmed Teen In Ferguson, Missouri

Interesting article by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Good read.

Cops dont "protect and serve" in the hood fam.

They will ALWAYS feel some type of way. Usually their very presence serves to make matters much worse.

You should not become a cop if you cannot handle the stress that comes along with it. That's just one of the major problems were having now.
that's my point... you're putting ALL cops from ALL hoods in a bucket

it's not cool to do that... there are far more good cops than their are bad ones ... the good ones get no recognition and the bad ones make the headlines -- America don't care about good ****... we want to argue and be divided on the bad ... that's what sells and draws attention

I mentioned your last comment in a post last week --- the process to become a cop is flawed...

the department is basically just looking for warm bodies to patrol the streets because it's not a desirable job....it's dangerous, the pay isn't great, etc etc

so ppl are being put into these positions that are not ready and/or are not equipped to be what they should be

it's also full of people that join for the wrong reason.... they just want to legally kick someone's *** and be "the boss"
A good cop loses the title of good cop when he sees the corruption present in his PD and does nothing to stop it.

I consider them just as bad as the intentionally bad ones. Matter of perspective I guess.

Cops profiling and stereotyping blacks as a whole is no different than

Blacks profiling all Cops and stereotyping them as a whole.

You can't be mad at all Cops for stereotyping all Blacks

Then turn around and Judge all Cops based of the actions of a few.

What about this makes one better than the other, or does it make them both equally ignorant?

No one non-black cop has walked in a black mans shoes, and No one non-cop black has walked in a White Cops shoes.

Don't be the same kind of way, or be that way, but don't be upset that someone of a different race than you, feels prejudice towards you based on how they get judged, too, by you.

it's not the same thing at all. at all

Also, if the top of the chain are in on it, then it will fall on deaf ears and then he will become the target.

I had analogy comparing a couple scenarios from Street Kings the movie, but I figured they were a little out there so deleted them

the american education system is terrible :x

Too many people really don't learn about respectability politics, housing segregation, and the internalized systematic presence of racism , etc until college or on their own until later in life
:smh:

like, pick up a book :smh:

Prejudice is prejudice, racism is racism, no matter which way you arrive at it.

It's the same. It has no color barrier. It is what it is. Pure ignorance
Cop stereotypes me= I get shot and killed
I stereotype a cop = I get shot and killed

not the same thing

what are you doing? why are you pushing this view?
Its not about pushing a view. It's about me as a person, not judging groups as a whole, based of the actions of a few.

That's it.

I don't approve on anyone hating on all Cops  in their  entirety anymore than I approve of all Cops profiling blacks in their entirety. It goes hand in hand, no matter the discrimination involved. It's wrong, it's ignorant, and it's small minded.

it's insulting to claim that the bias some people have toward police is analogous to the racism they display and act out on towards people of color
That's your right to feel that way, I can even understand how one WOULD feel that way, feeling a type of way, no matter the reason, doesn't make it right.

I however, don't share the same thoughts on the matter, that you have.

And that's okay, that's life, I'm just telling you how I feel about it.

We understand that's how you feel. But we're also saying that if you educated yourself a bit more, your opinions would (possibly) change.

Not the same at all.

I was born black. They choose to join their group.

I don't judge all police officers though. The officers where I live are very nice dudes for the most part. You run into a dickhead every once in a while. I mean I live in VA. I see confederate flags every single day. There are schools, roads, buildings, and monuments named after racists and slave owners in my city.

My state was built on murder, pillaging, rape, and slavery. To say "its the same" when we are wary of an institution MADE to see us fail is preposterous.

That logic only works in a system in which the scales are balanced..

I don't think I need to tell you the scales are unbalanced. Drastically.
I agree there is a HUGE unbalance.

I do, but I also know this, us being ignorant   hateful, and carrying that hate around, isn't going to change the unbalance. It's very handicapping to our community as a whole to act the same way towards others, because they did it first.

.

It will not help to balance things, if we contribute to the problem as opposed to the solution
