Alcohol dosent cause weight gain

After hearing from people about diets and weight gain from alcohol on the TV etc I decided to look into it. And came to the conclusion that alcohol itself dosent cause any weight gain.
How I came to this conclusion was, I have been drinking alcohol for over 10years and when I drink (which is most days) I tend to drink quite a fair bit. Anywhere from 4-12 strong drinks.
Now ive noticed no weight gain and I watch my calorie intake as im into fitness etc. I never have counted liquor, itself, as calories and I have never gained weight due to it.
I think theres a big confusion surrounding this, the way you gain weight from drinking alcohol is either. Beer, W/Sugar filled soda etc and Wine.
I drink straight whiskey, and if I mix, its only with Coke Zero. Iv ran months where I counted the supposed "calories" in straight alcohols in my diet and either subsitited food for the alcohol (which resulted in me actually loosing weight, a lot of weight) and where I have just added whatever "calories" ppl say are in straight alcohols onto my standard diet to see if Id gain weight, I stayed at the same weight the entire time.
If the calories in the alcohol we are told was correct I would have gain near 2 pounds a week.

This is just something I wanted to share from my own experience, and was wondering if anyone else has noticed this as well?

Now I must say, ive gone weeks on beer or wine and I did notice a weight gain, but this was because not of the alcohol, but what was mixed in with the alcohol that actually added on the weight.

beer makes me fat, it gives me a beer belly. depends on the person I guess.
 
From living in a college town for 5 years, I always felt the weight gain was from the "drunk munchies", when bar closes folks stuffing their faces with fried and dyed foods.

Word.

Once I graduated I lost weight and I still got hammered.  I just didn't have Jimmy Johns to scarf down at 3 AM in a drunken stupor.  

That said, that feeling of waking up with an empty stomach after being juiced is no bueno.  Probably one of the worst feelings ever.   
 
I'm pretty sure its about the food you consume while drinking that causes people to get fat, not the alcohol by itself...

You claim to lead an active lifestyle and you count your calories, so that right there lets me know you probably eat a well balanced diet, or at least a diet not consisting on ****** food...

Op hour wrong your metabolism is high. Weight until u get a llittleolder. The beer does make you get a belly and will catch up with you

I honestly eat whatever I want, I just make sure I don't eat more calories then I burn in the day, That simple, my conclusions made based on all these things, I just didn't wana harp on about my life to much yanno

nah mate, calories in vs out is simple science. I know what I burn in a day, so I eat that much no more or less, I drink as much as I can handle tho and remain exact same weight, I had pizza last night for example, I don't eat healthy I just eat what fuel my body needs. plus you missed the point, YES BEER PUTS ON WEIGHT, ITS NOT STRAIGHT ALCOHOL

OP I think you should conduct a study on your scientific findings.

Hopefully the man doesn't shut you down because you're so close to the truth.

Well, it helps that liquor has no carbs, so you got that going for you. Anyway, when combined with other unhealthy variables, alcohol absolutely can contribute to weight gain.

I mean, I can make the proclamation that Big Macs don't make you fat, because I eat one every night for dinner, but I run five miles five days a week, I don't drink alcohol, and eat a chicken salad for lunch every day. If I ate a Big Mac every night, pounded a large soda, and played video games all night, I'd probably gain some weight. In the same vein, Big Macs today actually have fewer calories than they did 30 years ago, yet obesity is a problem.

There are just so many contributing factors that it's not accurate to say "alcohol doesn't cause weight gain". And like someone said earlier, when your metabolism slows down, you might be singing a different tune.

I agree, im saying that, its what you add to alcohol when you drink that gains the weight itself, if you drink straight vodka or drink it with diet soda you wont gain weight, mix it with full blown Coke, you will, but its not the alcohol adding the weight its the coke, so alcohol never added the weight

I agree, im saying that, its what you add to alcohol when you drink that gains the weight itself, if you drink straight vodka or drink it with diet soda you wont gain weight, mix it with full blown Coke, you will, but its not the alcohol adding the weight its the coke, so alcohol never added the weight

But then nothing actually makes you gain weight, and this entire thread is pointless.
 
I feel like it speeds up my metabolism if I drink a beer or 2 before bed.

but leads me to eating bad food if I drink it earlier.
 
Drunk munchies are real. Alcohol fueled trips to Wawa, Waffle House, IHOP, 7-11, etc. definitely will put pounds on you.
