2015 NEW YORK YANKEES OFFSEASON THREAD VOL. Baseball is in the air

I havent been in the loop much, if at all in the past few months.. but why in heavens name did we let Nate sign elsewhere!?!?!

What the ****!

This is what I don't understand. Didn't Cashman have offers for Robertson before the deadline?

If they weren't going to aggressively pursue him at the end, why wouldn't Cash get something in return instead of leaving us holding our **** in our hands.

Well we're apparently going after Romo or Grilli :smh:

Could have just re-signed David Robertson...

I'm even less excited for 2015 than I was with 2013, and that team was a dumpster filled with used needles carrying HIV

After they signed Miller, I don't think that they really wanted DRob back. If his asking price came down then they would've kept him. But I think they're happy getting that supplemental draft pick after the 1st round for him cause it allows them to go out and sign Scherzer or even see if they can enter the Lester market with a last minute bid.

Here's the moves I'd make.
-Max Sherzer or Jon Lester. You MUST get one of them.
-Go after Sergio Romo. Give him 3 year / $24mil. Robertson was expected to get 4yr / $52, got $1.5mil less per year. Romo is expected to get 3 year / $21mil (MLB Trade Rumors). Make him the closer. Can always take him off that role, if he struggles
-Trade Shawn Kelly for a minor leaguer. Save the $2.5mil, he's not worth keeping. Just to open up the moves for Romo & Headley, but don't trade him unless you have Romo.
- Give Chase Headley a 4yr / $40mil (there's 0 chance he has that 4 yr / $65mil offer). 4th year is a vested option, so long as he stays healthy in year 3.
-Bring up Preston Claiborne for the time being to replace Shawn Kelley. When Lindgren is ready, you either drop Claiborne or Rogers
-Adam Warren or David Phelps is your 5th Starter, loser is the Long Reliever, and gets demoted when Nova gets back.

Sherzer or Lester, Romo & Headley. They absolutely have to go after, and get. Just to try and make it look like they don't want to be a last place team.

Other guys that I at least like: Michael Morse (2yr / $22mil expected), Melky Cabrera (not at the 5yr / $66mil projection, but I do like him), Francisco Rodriguez over Jason Grilli, if we can't land Romo.

Robertson isn't worth 4/46.

I think Yankees go after Scherzer. They don't want Lester.

Melky is most likely going to Seattle.

^Thats exactly what I think. Everyone wants Lester. But when you hear about their backup plans none of them include going after Scherzer. Red Sox and Dodgers would try to trade for Hamels, Giants would try for Ervin Santana, and the Cubs could go after Hamels, Shields, or even Price.

Right now the Yankees have a clear path to getting Scherzer cause most teams think he's out of their price range. Plus losing their 1st round pick isn't a big deal anymore cause they get that supplemental one back for the White Sox signing Robertson. Only other team I can see going after Scherzer is the Nationals and thats only if they don't reach an extension with Zimmermann and trade him.

I know that some of you especially @Essential1  think its a must that the Yankees go after Scherzer. With insiders saying that Scherzer and Boras are seeking a guarantee of more than $200M, do you still think it would be smart for them to go after him?

Gonna have to make a big splash, and I think Cashman has big plans for the Winter meetings. If we can get 2-3 of these guys I'm a happy camper.

It looks like you can have Headley and a scrap heap type pitcher or Prado at 3rd and a top of the rotation pitcher.

Maybe this is the type of free agency period y'all should expect until Tex, Sabathia, ARod, etc's contracts come off the books and the luxury tax is increased in the new CBA after the 2016 season.
