Tipping Grievance

I'm friends with a few bartenders on FB and they're always *****ing about tips. It's getting ridiculous to the point where it's like they're begging for it. Now I tip well, I was a former waiter, I like to give back, I genuinely enjoy tipping well. But why are you gonna ***** about people not tipping you well enough? Why not look for a way to better your life so you don't need to rely on tips?

People just cop out man and want everything handed to them. I busted my *** for seven months, straight failure for seven months learning how to day trade, did I ***** about the market being tough? No I busted my *** to get better. Just seems like no one wants to actually get better. They just want to be comfortable where they are and then complain when they aren't making progress. It's ridiculous. There's so many ways to better yourself instead of *****ing about a lowlife stiffing you on a tip.

I'll play.

They're your friends so you should know why they haven't moved on to a better job or why they aren't working harder.  There also is the fact that no matter how hard you work, some people just don't tip.

I actually hate the concept of tipping. Dumbest thing ever. I expect good service and for people to do their job to the best of their ability no matter WHERE I am or WHAT i'm being serviced. From the person taking my food order all the way up to the person looking over the country I live in. People only feel obliged to tip because that's how they make their money. Cut out the tipping process ad pay them a regular wage for their job.

Working for tips slowly makes you a petty person.

You start feeling entitled to people's generosity.

When I used to work for tips the only legit complaint I had was when people plain lied.
"I don't have cash".. well the cc receipt has a line for tip :rolleyes
"I'll get you next time" (3 times in a row)

Then these same people would send their children to sign so they wouldn't tip.
or tell you they'll pay by cc after you showed up with a regular receipt so it's mad awkward to ask for tip and there's no line for it. :smh:

wasting mad time and it's no coincidence these same people are the ones that order right before closing time.

Seriously doe, why cant they just be paid regular wages in 2014??

Would it run up the menu prices THAT much??

slowly they'll be replaced by tablets at the table... I couldn't be happier.
You would still have to tip the person who carries the food to the table though. Thats a huge part of why tipping exists. Unless you're gonna order from a tablet, then the tablet goes off and you go pick it up from a stand or something.

will they though?

are we going to be able to teach bar tending robots how to make certain drinks? i feel like making a good drink involves more than just mixing alcohol, also proportions and additions, mostly for highball drinks...

Thunder hit it right on the head. People shouldn't be working for tips. As their job they need to provide good customer service no matter what. Then when you tip them normally inside of the restaurant/club, some tend to have an attitude that your only tipping a $1 a drink....like to me that's normal.

**** that man. When I see a bartender acting like this i'm just gonna tip pennies so they get the picture and be out that joint.

I also like how bartender's "salt" their tip jars with a bunch of money to stimulate people leaving tips. Nah buddy we up on that.

I got carried away and thought the post above me was about waiters.

Right....

I mean, its somehow still acceptable to pay waiters less than minimum wage...

Don't they use "robots" in hospitals that take medicine and such to rooms? They know what room to go to and stop if there's anything in their way. Not saying this would be a better solution to the issue as i'm sure they are probably more expensive than paying waiters lol

could be caf style where you just pick up the food from a window.

let's keep it real, most of us aren't going to fancy restaurants regularly.

I don't need "great service" at fridays, applebees, chilis, BWW, and the rest of these spots where food is just being reheated.
I can order with a tablet and refill my drinks at the machine. I'm only there for my friends or some fatherless broad that doesn't know any better.

My whole thing is, if you're young and you're unsatisfied with your job and its nonsense, why aren't you taking the chance to better yourself instead of putting up with that bull? Just bothers me seeing people want the world but not doing anything to take it. You work in a college bar, you should know your clientele is a bunch of broke college students. And let's be real, they aren't asking for highballs, just beers and shots. Instead of complaining look for a solution so you don't have to tolerate this nonsense.

If you're making me a drink, then yes. If you're just popping the top on a beer bottle...nope.

As a current waiter. I encourage people to tip. Do I go to every customer expecting a tip? Not at all.

A tip is just a token of appreciation for good service, if you get bad service, don't tip.
