Not knowing who Maradona is is like an American not knowing who Wayne Gretzky is. Doesn't matter if you've never watched hockey in your life, good chance you recognize that name.
You gotta understand that in terms of worldwide recognition in their primes, Maradona falls somewhere in between Michael Jordan and Ali and that's probably a massive slight to Maradona.

Can't lie, as a player Maradona was/is my favorite of all time... (and I'm an Englishman who watched the '86 QF live)
But off the pitch, he's always been a tool. I mean the 5min period of that one match almost sums him up entirely... brilliant genius with scumbag tendencies.
Gotta hope there'll be some repercussions for this, but he's pretty much treated like a messiah in Argentina, which sadly seems to be an excuse for his behaviour to be ignored time and time again.
