Considering move from DC area to ATL. vol. The rent is too damb high

160 to 110 is maybe a better comparison, but either way in NYC tons of unnecessary cost that you dont worry about in ATL, and NYC is just a dirty city to me so I`m really straight on it.

I feel you...

110 in Atlanta >>>> 160 in new York

Because I said more jobs in DMV? Man you sound like a dude who ain't got a job

Because you keep bringing up jobs like that's the end all b all...

If you're 27+, you should have some experience and the pre requisites to land a gig.

And most times, dudes work for big companies and can just transfer...

All four seasons is exactly why the weather sucks . I'd gladly live the rest of my life without having to experience winter again. That's another story for another time tho

I was raised in the islands too. And I ******* hate 4 seasons.

I only enjoy summer and fall. Winter in the northeast is horrible and I hate springs in the DMV

I'm not sure, but from the OPs posts, it doesn't seem like he's aching for the bread flow, though.

It just seems like he's paying high asa rent and tired of it

I get where dudes saying DMV has options...

I've never been so I'm going to speak to the area but there's opportunity in every big city... And it sounds like OP just wants to experience some stuff...

Getting a roommate to me just seems like going backwards because there is a true freedom with living with yourself that can't be duplicates when you have a roommate.

I would NOT advise OP to just up and move...

Focus your job search on Atlanta... Then line you gig up out there before yiu make the leap.

In all honesty, I would think of DC as being a Colder ATL, with a more govt focused Economy. The literal only thing I can even say another city has that would be better than ATL is public transportation. Outside of that most these major cities you can get the same things done in. I visited DC a few times in the past and def didnt see anything special, funny thing is I was at the mall and some dude heard my accent and asked where I was from and I told him Atlanta and he was on some "damn bruh is it really like the videos?!?!". But at the end of the day if you're young and Black ATL is the place to be just from a network stand point, but then again DMV has a pretty progressive young black pop, so at the end of the day its your choice.

ATL has Lockheed Martin, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Accenture, IBM, PWC, etc along with a ton of smaller companies, so career wise the gigs are there, it's just whether he can get a foot into these spots as an Entry Level or Mid level Analyst. I work in IT, and once again I`ll say once you get some years under the belt for work experience in ATL you are going to EAT. I wouldn't be surprised if ATL has more Corporate Headquarters than DMV.

I wouldn't be surprised either. But I don't think any of the those companies you listed as headquartered in the ATL though.

Between the Federal government, the contractors, the banks, the start ups and the rest of the private sector, small firms and municipal jobs. I highly doubt Atlanta his keeping up the entire DMV.

For example, every company you listed also has offices in DC too. And Lockheed Martin headquarters are in Bethesda, MD which is within the DMV.

DC has one of best job markets in the entire country.

I still remember having the cops called on me in a CVS in Silver Spring because I was having an allergy attack. i ran into the store but $50 on the counter, then proceeded to run to the allergy medication isle and tear open boxes on Claritin and Benadryl

They found me sitting on the floor scratching my eyes out, They thought I was a drug feind :smh:

i live in woodbridge paying 1500 for a 3 bedroom apartment after utilities, rent is high but im not complaining about that... what i hate most about the DMV preferably Virginia is the property tax i pay on my car my car isnt even worth more than 20k and my tax on my car was 450 last year, state tax and this weak behind emission test i got to keep getting done on my car i never had to deal with any of that in Florida. Plus these damn houses out here are very expensive im talking about half a million will get you a house here that is great for a family and im not moving way out to winchester to save money on a house and than have to deal with that commute and im not settling for no town home for 300k when i can get a huge house in Florida bigger and cheaper for less than 300k . but after experiencing the DMV it seems all hype to me... Im taking my behind back to florida this summer. and i hate this traffic here i would love to drive to work but that traffic is OD in the AM and PM :smh:

Just my opinion tho.

So how do you get to work, metro don't run to Woodbridge.

And I'm positioning myself to relocate to a different metro area. After growing up, leaving for school and coming back I'm ready to move on from the DC area.

When i say corporate HQ im including Regional HQs also and all the places i mentioned have HUGE operations in Metro Atl. DMV focuses in Govt contracting stuff mainly whe ATL probably bas more private sector options. And Atl is literally on path to being the Tech Hub of the South and is often called the Black Silicon valley.

Brah, it is cool ATL is developing so well. I honestly mean that because of the high pollution down there, my people will benefit as a result. So I genuinely happy tp hear all that is poppin off.

But you're turning this into a dong measuring contest comparing job markets. Problem is the DMV is the Lexington Steele of the job market.

It is not just contractors (which there are a ton), it is also government job themselves (which they are a ton), and there a **** load of private sector jobs and tech jobs too. I don't know what makes you think it is just contractors.

DMV resident checking in. I'll cosign the rent being too damn high. And PG is getting worse and worse... Everything has pretty much been touched on. There are ways to save one rent (e.g. roommate) but I'm with you OP. I left that back in college but that's not to say there is anything wrong with that route.

Any personal recommendations for a spot under 1400 (all utils incld.), within walking distance or has a comp. shuttle to the metro, and in Silver Spring or Arlington (or comparable area)? Done with this PG living...

Nah, I`m not trying to turn this into a pissing contest, I just literally hear nothing about DMVs economy that isn't related to Govt Contracting. Once again I am in IT and hear nothing about tech industry booming in DMV that isn't govt related. After a quick google search, I see Atlanta has 17 Fortune 500 companies with Global HQs based in the city and 31 Fortune 1000, so that doesn't even include smaller companies.

Now when people compare DMV which is a City and 2 states, of course you will have bigger Economic options just from sheer size. Either way, I`m good in ATL, and OP can do what he wants, at the end of the day if you put in work you will eat, whether you're in DC or Idaho.
