Long story short, I like music and sound. I don't want to make this a career, I don't want a dollar from this. I have a job. I just want to do this on my free time because I'm nice

Sometimes I look back at some of my old music on iTunes. Albums from the 90s, and I do my research and find out how that beat is made, what songs were sampled (big ups WhoSampled.com, what was added) and I'm amazed. I have a good ear for music and I wanna play around with it and make some creations. It's kinda like cooking to me..you got all these ingredients and you wanna make a good meal from scratch, feel me?

Purpose of this is to ask y'all if y'all know of any FREE software that I can chop up and sample songs on. Like I get a song on YouTube or iTunes, pick a piece of the song I like, add it on, add some drums or whatever, and make that meal.

Garage band is good if u just tryin to mess around and make sumthin to listen to.

If u find something to sample on yt copy the url and paste here
http://www.vidtomp3.com/

Download it and it automatically puts the song into your itunes library.

Go to garageband and find it in the loops then drag it into the main screen.

Turn off "snap to grid" in the edit tab uptop and you can chop it up freely.

If you got a midi keyboard you can use that for any instruments in garageband and add bass or treble or watever using the graphic equalizer or other effects....if u dont have a midi u can use musical typing on the keyboard but theres gonna b a slight delay

Theres alot of ways to chop things up on gb or just make your own beats.

U mite already knew all that tho lol.

if you got an mpc then its a whole nother story.

if i was at my place i could make a vid and show you but im out o town rite now.

Garage band is horrible unless you're recording live feeds. They don't offer enough samples and their plugins are OD expensive (Apple, go figure).

I would start with reason. It's expensive but it'll be all you need and your computer (if you have enough ram) will be able to run it just fine. It's easy to use and also allows for live recording. Plugins can be "downloaded" too *wink wink*
