Wow, so Verizon have officially took off contracts

I looked into Verizon. I was still going to be like 135 just for myself for 10 gb of data. If Verizon were to go down to T mobile price, I think they would take over.

They dont need too, as they have millions of customers who are forced to use them as nothing else works in their area.

I worked for Tmobile back in the day and still kept an ATT phone because tmobile was a joke, but their service has Improved soo much it isn't even funny. Before Tmobile was unusable so it didnt make sense to even pay to save money when you can't use it, but I have been with Tmobile for over a yr and a half and have no complaints besides little stuff but I pay 100 bucks for me and my mom and its unlimited everything so it doesn't even make sense for me to pay anything more than they for less data. I avg about 12-15gb a month, so it would be one thing if VZW and ATT had cheaper plans for the amount of data I use but they dont, and even then who knows when I may use 20+ gb. I dont plan on leaving Tmobile until they force me off my plan and unlimited isn't an option anymore. IMO Cricket is the next best option if you dont need unlimited since ATT owns them now and they have great plans, they had a crazy 20gb for 55 bucks plan that was limited time offer not to long ago.

Again, I can't speak for any other carrier or anyone else.  But I saved over $20/month on my 3 line family plan.  It's actually more like $40/month.

And saving money isn't about right now all the time.  Even if you pay full MSRP up front for a phone you're STILL coming out ahead in the end.  The bottom line is what matters to me.

Personally, I haven't had to come out of pocket for a new iPhone other than monthly payments since TMO finally started carrying it (iPhone 5).  I paid $99.99 plus the full tax on MSRP up front back then and I've been able to sell each one, pay off the remaining balance it and still have enough left over to cover the next $99.99 + full MSRP tax.  Just one of the perks of no contracts, IMO.

What is it that you're paying $99 for?
This part is confusing me.

do these companies still throttle data after like 5gb like verizon, tmobile, att?

I'm at 13 gigs on att and my service is still poppin. They recently got sued for not giving us true unlimited data since we got throttle. They still do reduce speeds after 5 gigs but I haven't experienced any problems since.

I don't mind the 2 year contract.

Yes I'll have the flexibility of buying a new phone when I want, but I don't need a new phone every 2 months. Paying an extra $500 for the phone, means my plan should be $20 lower a month. If it's not, then I still don't see the benefit for me. For guys that like to upgrade every few months, I guess it makes sense.

I'm the same way. I use the same phone for 4-5 years

I was out of contract with sprint for like 3-4 years, decided to stay with sprint and renew last January, got the Note 4 for $200, 500 mins/unlimited data etc.. for $50/mo. seems like Sprint is the only network not throttling data tho...

got ****** financing cell phones out chea :smh: .g

seriously....got the rim note, TV note....cell note, absolutely pathetic :x :smh:

The thing with buying used phones is that you are always gambling. Too many sketch people selling stolen phones or phones they are still financing. If you bought a phone of off Ebay and the phone suddenly gets IMEI blocked by the carrier because that person abandons the payment on it 3 Month down the down the road, there won't be a thing you can do to get that phone working. Same thing with folks who do insurance fraud, the phone will end up getting IMEI blocked.... What if it was stolen...? Then What?

Math time!

On contract with AT&T:

Unlimited talk + text, 5GB data = $90 + tax, monthly

Pay for iPhone 6 upfront = $200

$2160+ over 2 years.

AT&T Next (pay for smartphone monthly):

Unlimited talk + text, 5GB data = $75 + tax, monthly

Pay for iPhone 6 monthly = $21

Total bill monthly = $95 + tax

$2280+ over 2 years.

T-Mobile Prepaid:

Unlimited talk + text, 5GB data = $60 + tax, monthly

Pay for iPhone 6 upfront = $700

$700 / 24 months = $29

Total bill "monthly" = $89 + tax

$2136+ over 2 years.

got ****** financing cell phones out chea :smh: ...I ain't been on a contract in a min, I just wait a month or 2 after a new phone drops n cop one for a good price on eBay or something

That is exactly what they are doing financing dam phones talking about no contract FTW smfh. If you didn't pay full price you are financing that phone you don't own it until you pay the full price. Go ahead and switch phones every year you wont ever own it. Trade it in for the next one and will always be paying extra per month for your phone.

Unlimited Data Contracts FTW. Dudes talking bout getting throttled down to 2G speeds with TMO  that's crazy.

Man, I was breaking this down for customers on the daily when I was at AT&T

Whether the next and the share plan works out better was dependent on a number of factors and went both ways at times.

bruh... TMO does have unlimited data plan for $80. Unlimited Talk + Text + Data + An Extra 7GB for Tethering.

What you are failing to understand is that you can out right own your phone.. Nobody is forcing you to switch phones each year. But you do have the option to go into a leasing type of thing where you can switch phones like you have mentioned. Do the math, when you are in a contract, THEY STILL MAKE THAT MONEY BACK. The homie up a few comments above did a simple math for you, compare and contrast.
He said speeds get throttled down to 2G with the TMO unlimited plan, that is hardly unlimited. Did you look at the math? Dude compared 5GB plans, and they are all very similar $30 savings buying upfront is not a significant savings. Many aren't purchasing either they are financing, like I said I have a real UNLIMITED plan that does not get throttled to 2G speeds. People also aren't keeping these phones for long periods of time they keep trading them in.

These next plans benefit the carriers in every way possible IMO. If they didn't carriers wouldn't be trying so hard to force people off of contracts.

How are you guys using that much data? I barely go through 2 GB. Also, how on you on Verizon and getting unlimited data? Was your plan grandfathered because I couldn't get that when I got my SIII (current phone) back in 2012 after I upgraded from Blackberry.

i was grandfathered in and i been buying my phone for retail for a minute... since verizon changed the contracts i never updated my phone to keep my unlimited data...

T-Mobile doesn't throttle you if you have their unlimited LTE plan. You only get throttled when you have a cap on your high speed data. I have burned through over 50GBs of data before and have never been throttled.

Do you keep Pandora on 24/7?

How are you guys using all this data????

For thoses who say whats the piont of no contract think of this:

When you buy a phone on a contract instead of paying full price for the phone, you pay a discounted price. but the phone company makes that money back by you paying an inflated service plan ( in verizons and at&t case thats $40 a line). In that 2 years you pretty much just paid the full retail for that phone

The problem with this though is if you you decide to hold off on upgrading your phone for whatever reason, you still are paying the inflated service rate and now the phone company is just profiting off you now

With this new way of purchasing phone you will get a discount on your service ( in verizon and at&t case $15 or $25 a line depending on your data). Then you will pay full price for the phone you want. that range from like $200 to $900 depending on the phone

This guy gets it.

As I mentioned, you won't be able to do Two-Year contracts with AT&T very soon anyway. Authorized retailers already have stopped. Corporate stores are next.

As a sales rep we get penalized for doing Two-year contracts (which is stupid as hell) so if you ever wonder why a rep is pushing so hard to do the Next plan that is why lol.

If you're on a Mobile Share Value plan (which we are pushing customers to switch too) it will always be more convenient to do the Next Plan when upgrading in store. Point blank.

If you're on our older plans that consist of unlimited data, two year plans is the obvious choice. For my people who have "unlimited data" and using less than 10 gigs on their plan chances are you probably would be saving money by switching over to the Mobile Share Value plan which consists of Unlimited talk, unlimited text, and a data plan that everybody uses on the account.

Really all depends on data usage.
