Do you really care if white ppl use the "N-Word"

What irritates me the most is when I hear the word from non black people that are racist towards black people in all aspects of life other than copying black fashion, lingo, music, etc.

Not reading through the whole thread but I can't stand when anyone that is not black uses it as apart of their everyday vocabulary (hell, you can search my entire post history on here & not once have I ever eem typed the word... that's how strongly I feel about it). I also can't stand when someone who isn't black speaks on racial injustices & how black people should react to a certain situation... If you're not black, you will NEVER know what it feels like to be persecuted based on the color of your skin to the extent that black people have been/are but that's a different matter I'd rather not get into...

Back to the topic at hand, I only say the N word when I'm singing along to music. Not gonna front on that.

I love black culture though, b.

Where I'm from/ where I grew up, the demographic consisted/consists of a lot of black folk.

I'm proud to say that I can attribute a lot of my swagger to my black brethren 8)

Growing up in the Bronx....the word was just part of your lingo just like "dude" "bro" growing up I said it around anyone and no one flipped...maybe it was because of where I grew up....maybe it was shrugged off because I was a kid...as an adult I rarely use it and when I do is accidentally while chopping it up....my sisterinlaws BF is black and I wouldn't say that word to him....bottom line is derogatory to
Its core, I don't even know why other adult black people or rappers continue to use it as part of their lyrics.

This thread reminded me bout something about something in Vegas ...I was in line to get into this spot and there was a big group behind me from Cali ( mostly Asian, a few blacks, and a couple Latinos) ...the Asians n Latinos where letting the N word fly like it wasn't nothin n it was so weird to me...I kept looking around to see what was going n it seemed like I was the only one bothered by it like it was a normal thing ...I just chalked it up to it being some west coast ****, aint ever seen nothin like that ANYWHERE on the east coast, the ppl here would be scared to say it in the open like that

Generally, i don't care, based on the context. We're intelligent enough to know if someone is using it to be disrespectful out or not. It's become a part of pop culture whether you like it or not.

Crazy how, on one hand, we say "race doesn't matter, any race should be able to do what any other race does" then turn around and say "oh you can't do this (say a certain term) b/c you're [insert race].

I always ask this question when this topic comes up: if you pass by a building that has "n-word killa" spray painted on it, would you immediately be offended, or would you have to wait to see the race of the person who sprayed it? Serious question.

It's def a west coast thing.

Can't believe y'all going back and forth with somebody who doesn't know **** about this topic. Dude is straight trolling.

Yes and I will start a riot because of it.

So what if you never find out? Would it be someone 'expressing the pain of their life and using a word that his people turned into a term of endearment" or "an ignorant bigot who has genocidal plans for the Black race"? Either way, it's advertising a killing black people, it's just that peole don't get mad unless it's a white person doing it.

My guy fresco a real one ...may you be blessed with unlimited chipotle coupons :pimp:

the asians and latinos/mexicans throwing it out might in deed be a west coast thing. maybe more so a cali thing.

because there are hardly any african americans out there to put them in check or say anything, so they feel like hey whos gonna stop us, the 1 or 2 black folks out of the 40-50 of us?

just assumption and observation.

Asians in the bay area are like this no doubt

Similar to the story of my life. Growing up in middle class Phoenix, there were years of my schooling in which I was the only, or 1 of 3 black kids in my class; the other two being girls.

Can't really win a fight when your in a class 30 deep. 15 white, 14 hispanic, and you (AA). I would try to brush it off and only lay hands on someone if they used it with respeck to my name. Trying to feel cool, hip saying, "whaddup my *****?" to each other or in reciting rap lyrics, I'd just give them the side eye and not chill with them anymore.

Nowadays, it's become such an accepted taboo thing to say that I will no longer resort to violence in its use. I still dont care to hear it (in most circumstances beyond rap music), but wont be go to jail over name-calling.

My asian and latino friends don't use it, at least not around me.

But there are definitely mixed groups out here who use it. I felt like it was really big in the East Bay. One of my exes was black and Native American but she had a bunch of Filipino friends. I know they used it a lot but they never did around me.

I'm not around those groups often in LA though. But I mostly stay on the Westside. I can't remember the last time I heard a non black person use it around me....

Being from the south where racism is still quite apparent and not so overt compared to other areas, I try to avoid using it. I've had to get on a couple of people for using it in the past, once in a public setting with lots of people around. I refrain from using racial slurs, so I expect others to do the same.

I'm a nurse at a drug treatment facility.

Last night, I was waiting for clients to come get meds. Had some music playing at a low level.

White guy comes in the room and says "N_ N_ N_" then sits down. I stopped the music, got my thoughts together then asked him why'd he say that.

(For those of you who try to justify the difference between "a" and "er", he used "a".)

His response was, "I hate when people play music like that." I said nothing else to him. No point in fighting him, cursing at him. In that situation, I got way more to lose.

I sent a text to my supervisor telling her what happened and let her no that I was refusing to give him meds. She said she had my back.

He tried to apologize a few mins later, told him I didn't need it. Prior to last night we've never had an issue. He's already losing at life. Once mom and dad's insurance runs out life will hit him even harder.

I'll have some Trick Daddy playing tonight when he comes to get meds.

As a Black man or woman, do not let anyone white person use it without berating/correcting them. If anything, your saving their behinds from getting pummeled by other Black people who aren't as understanding.
