Grits - Sweet or Savory?

Savory every day. Never heard of putting sugar in grits; if you want that just eat farina

I also feel if you're African American and dont mess with grits or are too good for them your card is revoked..
damn, I never thought it would end like this...

I don't mess with grits all that much.

not like I won't eat shrimp and grits if that's the menu and I know better than to not eat the grits offered me in a hospitable southern home--typically with cheese, butter, salt and pepper, to answer the question--but when it comes right down to it I don't really want to eat any grit, thanks.

I'm not saying you have to eat them all the time, but that was directed toward the people slandering grits. You said if offered the way you like them, you wouldnt refuse

Grits are damn near a part of the culture

Sweet :smokin

Depends on what I'm eating with them though. Gumbo on grits >>>>>>>>>>>

Tell me more, I've only eaten Gumbo over rice.

I prefer it to rice really. Don't make the grits soupy and it's A1. Basically make your gumbo then strain some and throw on grits after you put pepper, salt, butter, and whatever other seasoning you want. Then spoon dat gumbo juice on it to your liking and go in :smokin

I've seen it done with soupy grits too but it looks horrible

I live in the dirty and I love shrimps with a passion but I've never had shrimp and grits... I just started eating grits a couple years ago, now I'm a breakfast fanatic...

Definitely gotta find a good recipe or a spot to try it out, but they better be super jumbo...

But it depends on how I'm feeling. If I'm at a diner, I usually rock savory w/ butter, salt, and pepper, and shrimp if they serve that. At the crib, sweet w/ the cheddar

And Polenta sounds like Cream of Wheat papi, try again

Polenta is literally the same thing under a different name. People just want to sound fancy.

They are interchangeable.

Only time i've seen grits on the menu is when I was in South Carolina and Florida. I took a bite without adding anything to it and never touched it again. I don't think any of us liked the grits.

i don't understand grits as anyting other than a breakfast food.  growing up we only had it with breakfast, similar to like hot cereal

we used to have sweet rice too
