The Get Down: Netflix Original

overbudget probably came from being behind schedule which means people, like an entire crew including actors are there longer than they should, collectively that adds up. No way vintage clothing and recreating an era itself took this budget that far and there was not enough choreography to justify that either, each episode would need to have at least 3 fully blown musical numbers for it to come to that. I mean most of the choreography from the 2nd half was them performing and sometimes not even full songs,

how much Moulin Rouge cost?

Like someone else said Baz just went ham

I'm still tripping over that part in the first half shawty made that song writer give her head. He ate that box and she still wouldn't promote their record. That's some ruthless ish.

The Herculoids looked super corny.

I thought my man Ra-Ra was going to catch one mean beatdown when he first went into Zulu territory. Thought shawty was trying to set him up or something.

I'm still bugging out on how Ra Ra and Shaolin was talking about putting out a record then trying to get around sampling and being sued. In 1978? Forreal?

Beastie boys did it in 1989, and they said that record would have been impossible to create today. To me it seems like it would have been easier to do back in the 70s than in the 80s.

Point is, at that point, people weren't thinking in terms of that. They just wanted to make good music and not thinking about the business side necessarily. They really tried to do too much with this show.

i agree. My point was that beasties did it ten years later without thinking about it, so they would have def not been thinking about it in the late 70s.

they gotta come back to do at least another season that ending left way too many unanswered questions

i just need another toy box type scene w/ mylene ...

watched it in 1 night. good but wasn't crazy about the cartoons scenes and i did like pt 1 a lot more.

Still want a season 3

gotcha, yeah you right. Things didn't shift with that until 1995 or so

Did that Toy Box song not sound like anything remotely disco to anyone? **** sounded like a new song damn near

. Then hearing Frank Ocean in that Shaolin fantastic scene by himself. Like forreal? You doing a period show and mixing music like that? No bueno. I also hated how they waited until the last episode to hit you over the head with the sexual abuse theme. They hid it so well up to that scene, then boom! They drop that on you. Makes you wonder if Fat Annie is really Cadillac's mother or did she take him in like Shaolin? They really could have fleshed that storyline out a lot better.

Man that Toy Box outfit  :pimp: . Fat Annie is straight foul but they usually have a dude playing Fat Annie's role, so it was a nice spin on things. I was wondering who that was singing at the end it sounded like Miguel

.
It sounded like it dropped this year.

At first I wanted to chalk it up to the heavy use of Synthesizers and the Zapp/Roger talkbox effect but nah man, **** sounded like it dropped yesterday B

Part 2 is meh. Can't say I enjoyed it near as much as Part 1. Felt super rushed up until the last episode and then they dragged the ending out forever.

It's inconsistencies like that that ruin this show for me. If you can't do it all the way, then why bother? Tbh, they could have set it in the current time, switch the music premise and it probably would have worked better as a show.

Did Dizze die?

I hope there is second season. Left me with a lot of questions.

Two of present day Zeke's back up singers are the Madona whatevers. Can't tell if the third is Mylene.

Part one was better. Some things in 2 didn't make sense and it felt rushed. The cartoon was unnecessary but tolerable.

I love the three brothers.

I can't tell if Mylene as a character is corny or the girl is a terrible actress.
